I have a 5-year visa, but my passport will expire before the visa does. Has anyone successfully transferred their visa to a new passport without having to carry two passports?

Hi everyone!

I have a question for those who’ve had experience with the DTV visa. I’ll need to renew my passport soon, but I’ve been told there’s no official procedure to transfer the DTV visa stamp to a new passport. That means I’ll have to carry both the old and new passports when entering or leaving Thailand.

Has anyone here gone through this situation?

How does it work in practice at immigration?

Any tips or things I should be aware of when traveling with two passports?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Needing advice: Has anyone gotten a US emergency passport and then needed to mail it in in order to get your longterm passport? I’m not sure how I’m supposed to transfer my Thai visa over if I need to turn the emergency passport over before I can get the new one. Any info is appreciated- it’s like a brick wall trying to reach an actual human being at the consulate. 🤪

My U.S. ten year passport expires in 18 months. When getting a renewel the number changes i think. With the DTV being five years would I simply inform the Thai consulate of the new number?

If you have a visa in your paspoort but you have to renew your paspoort because the paspoort is getting expiratie (so there is no visa in your paspoort anymore)

Do you have to go to the immigration for putting the visa/stamps back in your paspoort?

I know it's also in the computer but it a immigration/policeman check in on the street they don't have a computer with them and only look in your paspoort.

Hi u just got my new US passport back from the US embassy. I entered on the old passport with a 60 day TR visa. From what I’ve read on here I need to transfer the visa from my old passport to the new.

Has anyone done this? Where do I need to go? And what docs do I need?

Update on 'water damaged' visa page in passport.

I was advised to get a new passport. With the new passport in hand, I was able to get my Thai visa transfered to new passport.

I was worrying that I had to go back to Immgration office in Phuket, where visas were issued. No need to worry ... if your visas issued in Phuket, you get visa stamps transfered on same day. If visas issued in a different cities, transfer done next day.

The lesson: invest in a ziploc bag when cycling during the moonsoon.

Hello, I have some questions regarding visa transfer to a new passport.

Do you think I can transfer my visa stamp from old passport to new passport without going back to the original IO which issued my ED visa? I am currently in Chiang Mai, and I must go out of Thailand next week for urgent family matters, using my new passport which was issued outside of Thailand. I came back into Thailand in May using my still-valid old passport and stamps in it. But I did not transfer the stamps as I did not have any previous plans to go out of Thailand until my current visa expiry date (September 2023). I will be back to Thailand next month.

Can I just get a re-entry stamp at the airport, go out and come back holding two passports? Or is it mandatory to transfer the stamps to a new passport before I go out of Thailand?

I tried reading the old posts on the same topic but couldn’t find answers regarding my current situation. My apologies if this is repeated. Thank you so much for your kind suggestions.
