I have a 5-year visa, but my passport will expire before the visa does. Has anyone successfully transferred their visa to a new passport without having to carry two passports?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The general consensus is that Thai visas cannot be directly transferred to a new passport; most users recommend carrying both the old and new passports. However, some users have indicated that you can have documentation issued by the immigration office assisting in documenting your stay in the new passport. It's advisable to check with local immigration office for specific requirements, as different offices may have varying protocols.
Yes. If you get your new passport outside of Thailand, enter with both and show the Immigration offcer your old passport and visa. You should then be told (with a stamp in your new passport) to visit Immigration as soon as possible. If you've got the new passport in Thailand, you should visit immigration ASAP as well.
The easiest way is to use an agent to get your visa and/or your extension stay transferred to your new passport. If you want to do it in person, you need to check what your local Immigration office requires because they vary.
That's correct. Aside from the passport, there seems to be a new passport certificate that one's embassy releases with the new pp--if the new passport was processed inside Thailand. Immi asks for that as well. Dunno if done outside.
I had to carry both passports even after I transferred. Not that big a deal, I travel enough where I have a document holder with pen, multiple pockets etc.
Yes I just did. You have to, indeed, otherwise they won't put you any re entry permit. Go to your immigration office to get the information about the documents you need as every office needs slightly different docs.
My retirement visa was transferred. I assume when a passport expires it can no.longer be used so the visas in them become invalid until transferred to a new valid passport
PositiveKale5378 if your entry stamp is in your old passport they will transfer that to the new one and possibly put in a stamp that refers to your old passport but the visa won't be transferred
