What should I know about traveling with two passports when renewing my DTV visa in Thailand?

Hi everyone!

I have a question for those who’ve had experience with the DTV visa. I’ll need to renew my passport soon, but I’ve been told there’s no official procedure to transfer the DTV visa stamp to a new passport. That means I’ll have to carry both the old and new passports when entering or leaving Thailand.

Has anyone here gone through this situation?

How does it work in practice at immigration?

Any tips or things I should be aware of when traveling with two passports?

Thanks in advance for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
When renewing your passport while holding a DTV visa in Thailand, you'll need to carry both your old and new passports as there's no official procedure to transfer the visa. However, visiting your immigration office with both passports may allow them to make a notation in your new passport referencing the old one. Until this is done, travelers will need to manage both passports during travel.

If you go to your immigration office with both passports and your DTV visa (assuming you have an evisa). They can put a notation in your new passport that references your old passport number, allowing you to stop carrying it. Until then you'd need to carry both, but all new stamps would go into your new passport.
