My U.S. ten year passport expires in 18 months. When getting a renewel the number changes i think. With the DTV being five years would I simply inform the Thai consulate of the new number?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When renewing your U.S. passport, the passport number will change. For your Thai DTV visa, you will need to inform the Thai consulate or immigration office. It's advisable to use both your old and new passports during entry and exit. If you've previously transferred a visa from an old passport to a new one, you should visit the U.S. embassy for a new passport and then go to the immigration office to transfer the visa, ensuring the visa's passport number matches your new passport.

I previously had a non-immigration visa switched from an expiring passport to a new passport.

Here was the process: I went to the U.S. embassy in Bangkok and applied for a new passport. When I collected my new passport, I requested they not cancel my old passport until I could switch out the visa.

I then went to immigration, in my case Chomchuri square. They moved the visa from my old passport to my new passport. I then returned to the U.S. embassy, who canceled my old passport.

I do not believe showing both passports is enough. Your passport number must match the number on the visa. A valid visa in an expired passport is not valid. Likewise, a visa in your name under a different passport number is likewise not valid.

I had another question that was declined by an admin without an explanation of why. Could one of the admin's explain to me please?

Another question, I don't know when I'm going to go back to my condominium in Thailand it is purchased. I tend to do things at the whim of my mood. So they want an intended date and return and plane ticket for the DTV application. Is it possible to not have those and it still get approved because I'm not sure exactly when? I'm a very spontaneous person. As always thank you to the Admins and this group.

I thought it was a simple question I just want the visa ready when I feel like going at a moments notice.

I am 40 years information technology professional with 25 of those with threat analysis and cyber security. But I must be missing something here I can always learn something new.

No you would simply use both passports on entry and exit.

The DTV sticker or the PDF file isn’t transferred to a new passport. You use both for the validity of the visa.
