A little Thai story. So, I hear that the Thai government has issued an edict to say that if people are scammed, then the banks will pay. One bank, my bank, promptly panics and tries to tighten up its system. Suddenly, loads of people - foreigners - who have the banking app (whatever that is) are being cut off because their phone details do not match their bank details. Now I, do not have the banking app (whatever that is), but when I was last in my bank, I asked about the problems and requested advice. Make sure your phone is registered to you was the advice. So today I go to the phone people AIS, and say "who is the phone registered to"? "Your wife", say they. OK, can I get it put into my name? "Yes, but not on this package. This is 10GB at 700+baht, and foreigner is only allowed to pay less than 500 baht, so you can only have 5GB package." "OK, says I, I'm more interested in getting my phone put into my name, so I have no problems with the bank. "Ok, says she, that can be done but you can only have 5GB, but we do have another package which gives you 10GB for 499 baht. Do you want that?" "Err, yes, whatever." So somehow, I've ended up with the phone in my name, paying 200 baht less than I was before for the same 10GB. Complete mystery to me, but I do love Thailand.

I have a Bangkok bank account, today I wanted to try opening a Kasikorn bank account with my LTR-WP visa in Nonthaburi. Omg 😱😱 What an incompetent branch or person. She called their headquarters, she had no idea about LTR, she spoke simultaneously with two individuals on two phones in both hands. She passed the phone to me at times so I could answer their questions, well finally no account with LTR after wasting about 40 min ! They asked work permit or country ID .. US has no country ID, we have passport and driver's licence. I run to the next door which is SCB bank. This time she was much faster to let me know their bank don't open a bank account for LTR visa holders. I said LTR visa holders were selected through a stringent process and it is given to top earners, why would SCB refuse to do business with us. She run inside, then came out with a better idea, she copied all my docs and told me that they will notify me in 1 week about their decision. Really pissed I barged into next door which was Kurungsri Bank. They also called their headquarters then copied my docs and told me to wait a week to hear their response. All in all, today I failed opening a bank account three times with my LTR-WP visa. Thai banks are going through a huge confusion, trying to implement new rules but doing it in a total chaos.

Hey everyone! Has anyone had their Bangkok Bank account frozen because of a long-term DTV visa? Are there any alternatives?

Kinda feels like discrimination!)

which bank do you recommend to open an account so i can arrange my retirement visa? Apparently the banks don't want to open an account for foreigners at the moment?

Went to Bangkok Bank, Koh Chang, this afternoon. Tried withdrawal but ATM said no. Went in Bank and they said account frozen . Had to go back with 5 year DTV visa, passport and the two year lease agreement we just signed on a house. Luckily they were happy with this and un-froze account.

Hi, after spending 2 months in Thailand, December and January,I tried to get a bank account for my up coming attempt on getting a marriage visa, but 2 months later no bank account, every where I went big city's or small towns they all said no you need a visa, I even showed them the official Thai embassy website saying you need a bank account before you can get a visa and there just looked at me and said no visa no bank, anyway I have heard you can use a HSBC bank account to get a visa, is this true or just more running around catching your tail, thanks sorry if it's a bit long winded but really need advice,

Trying to open bank account at 5 different TRB branches, Here is their response

🔹True digital park

They can’t do it. But I was told to do follow up after 2 weeks as the policy has changed.

🔹Onut Bic C Extra

They asked me about my DTV category “when i said workcation , they said no” but it can be done for those under soft power category. You might need some documents from Muay Thai or Cooking school

🔹Siam Paragon

At first the female staff asked my Visa and Passports. After a few minutes, a man (seems to be higher position) asked my employment contract, i gave it to him then he asked me where do i live. When he knows that i live in the another district, he told me to open at the branch of where i live. So if you live in Pratunam , give it a try

🔹Bangkapi Mall

No , asked for work permit 😅

🔹Headoffice

No , asked for work permit 😅.

DTV and Work permit 😅

So for now i’m looking for an agent who can help me to open TTB / KT or SCB. Your recommendation is appreciated
