I’m an American married to a Thai national entering the Kingdom early September visa exempt. Last year I did the same thing and converted my visa exempt entry to a Non O (marriage) at immigration and wanted to open a Thai bank account shortly after because immigration had told me that I would be able to. When I tried to open one in person, every bank branch I went into told my wife and I that I was not able to open it and that the stamp they put in my passport isn’t valid to open a bank account. I went into Bangkok Bank, Kbank, Krungsri, Krungthai, and SCB. They all told me I wasn’t able to. Anybody else have this same issue and what I could possible do different this second time around?
Answer summary
The user is an American who entered Thailand visa exempt, previously converting it to a Non-O visa (marriage) but faced issues opening a Thai bank account due to a lack of valid documentation. Commenters suggest that he needs a residency certificate from immigration, advise applying for a Non-O visa before arriving, and mention that banks require a long-term visa for account openings. Key steps include obtaining the Non-O visa first, getting a TM30 receipt, and having a registered Thai SIM.

Get the 90 day Non-O visa before you travel to Thailand. Once here go to immigration with a copy of the TM30 receipt filed by whoever is responsible for where you stay and get a residence certificate, then go to a mobile phone shop and get a Thai SIM registered against your passport and only then visit a bank to open an account

You have to have the non o

And you cannot get that while you are in Thailand with a visa exempt

According to the immigration lady we spoke to last week, that ended June or July 1

You need a certificate of residence from Immigration.

You sure you got the Non-O based on marriage after you exemption last time?

Because that does require you to have money in a Thai bank account already when getting it inside of Thailand.

Go on the Thai Los Angeles website. Apply for a No-O Marriage Visa and you will not have problems opening a Thai bank account after you arrive.

Banks (now) only open accounts for foreigners staying long term, tourist can not, the common bench mark used is the non o visa, you should obtain a 90 day non o before you arrive. Other long term visas are available.

Get the Non-O before arriving? Use that to open bank account. Get list from banks on what they require.
