# Sharing my success with the dtv:

15/10 - I applied in Hanoi at night for a workcation visa (paid after midnight so application date is 15/10 and payment date is 16/10).

## I gave them the following documents:

* photo - took a fresh selfie photo according the visa requirements ( [members only]/ ), edited it so it has a white background and cropped it.

* official bank summary up to date with my current balance and securities that exceeded the 500,000 THB

* I added also an official summary of a stock portfolio that I had, to give extra reassurance that I have more money if ever needed, although I know they don't count it. I don't know if it gave them more security.

* Official letter from my accountant stating that I am an Authorized dealer and paying taxes in my country

* a contract with one of my clients to give them example of my work scope and salary

* a personal letter explaining why i want the dtv, my financial status and my authorized dealer status

## 17/10 - I was requested additional documents

* Financial evidence: an amount of no less than 500,000 THB (e.g., bank statements for the last three months, sponsor letter): Submit bank statement of the last 3 months.

* Employment contract or employment certificate in their country or professional portfolio showcasing digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status : Business registration of company you're currently working with.

## 18/10 09:00 - submitted all requested additional documents

I assume that handing them with my accountant letter and the contract together confused them whether i am a business or an employee.

I added again the same official letter from my accountant, together with a personal letter explaining it, and added a screenshot from the government tax website showing that i exist there.

I also sent them the last 3 months (the 500,000 THB were not there all along, it didn't matter)

## 20/10 - status went to “pending approval”

This took a while in my case and someone else that applied on the same date also for a dtv in hanoi.

I waited and checked regularly for the visa status.

## 28/10 19:00 - I have sent them an email

While I really tried not to hassle them, after 8 days after the pending approval, and 2 weeks after I have applied, I did want to remind them nicely.

I sent them an email, sharing the times of my application, and asked politely for the status of it and if there is anything i can help with.

## 29/10 10:00 - I called the embassy

the person that answered told me that I need to wait another week, and this is just how it is.

It didn't feel like he has any information regarding my application, and that he just gave an automated answer.

## 29/10 12:30 - visa approved

My guess is that the email went to the right people, and they changed the status of my visa to approved.

## 30/10 - I entered Thailand with my DTV

I told immigration that I have a DTV, after taking my passport and my fingerprints, they asked to see it, showed them my DTV on my phone and got stamped for 6 months

Hello. I've been traveling to Thailand for 6 weeks at a time (I work abroad, 6 on, 6 off) and have just come across the 180 day tax requirement. But I have some questions... I do not have and do not want or need a Thai bank account. I pay US taxes but will be qualified to have my income covered by the foreign income tax credit this year, so I shouldn't owe anything other than the SS / medicaid. Given these factors, do I still need to pay taxes or file anything in Thailand since I'm arguably not bringing money into a Thai account? I'm interested in applying for the DTV so it'll make my leave breaks easier but I'm not sure if I can as an independent contractor or if this would complicate tax issues..

I just want to make sure I'm doing everything legally but also don't end up paying Thai taxes if I don't even need to pay US taxes.

For those of you in Thailand on a DTV visa — is Rawai a good place to base yourself as this is where I’ve seen a decent Muay Thai gym under the soft power visa, or would you recommend another area of Phuket?

While I’m out there, I’d love to connect with others into fitness/gym life and digital nomads. Would you recommend renting a motorbike or a car, and what are the typical costs? I know motorbikes are easy to rent, but I only have an international driving license (not a motorbike one), so I’m not sure how that works.

Same with accommodation — did you sort it once you arrived or book in advance? Roughly what are the monthly costs for a decent place in Phuket?

Also, how did you go about meeting like-minded people? I’d like to avoid feeling isolated, as I’m moving from the UK and hoping to meet people into fitness, good vibes, and community.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated as I’m getting flights to Phuket booked and sorting putting things into storage back home in the UK currently preparing to move. Thanks in advance!

Love this group! Husband and i got DTV with the help of this group for remote work. USA Passports. This is our first re-entry.

Flew to Laos Aug 23 (after 180 days in TH) and been having a beautiful time in Laos for the last month (Vang Vieng mostly, gorgeous place highly recommend for digital nomads)

We extended our Lao visa 1 more week to celebrate my husbands bday on Sep 24th and coming home a few days after that via flight Vientiane-Bangkok.

I have my DTV stamped in my passport and husband has his in his printed. Anything we should prepare or expect? 🧐@Just wondering cuz it’s the first “border hop” even tho we’ll have been in lao 5 weeks.

Also coming back to Lao again mid November when the husbands grandparents visit😄

Yes yes I’ve searched thru this sub just would love to to know advice for our specific situation first re-entry😇

Hey looking for recommendations for a decent Accountant that has experience with Digital Nomads.

I’m a UK registered sole trader working 100% online, but also looking to register my business in another country with better tax rates/benefits if anybody has any knowledge on the matter. Thanks!

Hey everyone,

Sorry this is a longer post — I’d really appreciate any insight or advice ❤️

I recently applied for the Thai Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) from Germany (my passport country), and unfortunately, my application was just rejected. I’m still trying to understand what exactly went wrong.

Here’s what I submitted:

* Proof of funds (over 500,000 THB)

* Invoices from freelance clients over the past 12 months

* My personal Spanish tax return (I was living in Spain until recently)

* Proof of current location in Germany (short-term rental contract)

* A company tax return from a Spanish business I closed in March 2025

I’m currently not registered anywhere, as I’ve been full-time nomadic since March — and was just temporarily in Germany when I applied.

A few days after submitting, they asked me to:

* Provide proof of registration in Germany (which I don’t have - I explained it to them and it seemed ok - so I think)

* Legalize all documents related to any foreign company through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai embassy in the issuing country (in my case, Spain)

Since my company was already closed and I wasn’t in Spain anymore, I explained that and asked them to disregard the company tax documents and instead focus only on my personal Spanish tax return.

Still, my visa was rejected — no reason given.

What’s confusing is that a friend of mine (Spanish citizen) applied from Vietnam, had no company, and got approved in just two days — no extra documents requested.

So I’m left wondering:

* Has anyone here successfully applied from a country that’s not their own passport country (like Vietnam)?

* Do they always require legalised foreign tax documents? (If so, what exactly? Just the tax return? Company registration too?)

* Would submitting only my personal tax return be enough?

* I recently opened a U.S. LLC to handle invoicing — will this create the same legalization problem if I use it in a new application?

* Do they expect you to be officially registered somewhere? Or is that flexible for nomads?

I really put a lot of time and effort into this application — so I’m feeling discouraged. I had hoped to spend 6–7 months a year in Thailand, and this rejection feels like a setback I didn’t expect.

If anyone here has been through something similar or knows how to navigate this better, I’d be so grateful for your advice. 🙏

Thanks so much in advance.
