Soft power being removed from DTV?

[members only]

Bret says that he has got confirmation that soft power is being discontinued for DTV. Does anyone else have any knowledge about this?
Summary so far
There's ongoing confusion and speculation about the status of the soft power category under the DTV in Thailand. Some participants in the discussion supported the idea that it may be discontinued, citing a YouTuber named Bret's claims as a source. However, others refuted these claims, stating no official confirmation exists from Thai authorities. The conversation is rife with opinions on the appropriateness of 5-year visas for short-term courses, with many arguing that such provisions are often abused.

This is just clickbait. TBF, though, I've never understood why someone on a 6-month cooking course gets a 5-year visa. I would have thought a one-year cultural visa would have been more appropriate.

What would be best for the country as a whole. I honestly don’t know why you would need a five-year visa for a six-month cooking course. But it does make you wonder why the visa is set up that way, and it seems inevitable that some people would take advantage of it. In my opinion, a visa like that makes much more sense for digital nomads or people working remotely for an employer.

I haven't heard or read any type of official statements or news from Thai immigration about eliminating the soft power part of the DTV, however it will come as no surprise and would make sense if they do.

It never made any sense to hand somebody a 5-year Visa for signing up for a 3 to 6 month cooking, Muay Thai, or learn the language class. It would make more sense that the Visa is good for the length of time that you are attending and able to prove you are attending such classes.

The workcation portion of the DTV visa represents what the true meaning of such a Visa is all about as many other countries also offer it as well.

Digital nomads who are able to legitimately prove that they are earning a required minimum amount of income outside of the country and are able to present clear evidence they can support themselves fully during their entire stay, are really what a DTV Visa is meant to be used for and should be used for.

If this was true, I seriously doubt the breaking news would come from a Youtuber 😂...talking points within Thai politics are usually openly dicussed over months of deliberation before final decisions are made. The public would have been made aware of possible changes way beforehand if true.

So many bitter people here, literally joyful that a visa is being made more restrictive, presumably because they take pleasure from seeing other people not be able to stay in Thailand as long as they previously could. Why would you even care? If ever there was a sign that your life is sad or that you're simply an a**hole, this is it.

The criteria needs revising now they have a good 2 years of data. The program criteria differs for the same outcome of a 5 year tourist visa. Workation/freelancers provide current and ongoing income proof on application as well as the seasoned 500k. Soft just the 500k which is not surprising they are more often now getting issued METV’s.

There are other ways to get a visa that won’t cause you problems, such as a Non-B visa: you open a company and that’s it. I think it’s an abuse of the system to use a visa for five years just to stay here without studying or doing anything. Some people only study for six months and then spend the rest of the time doing whatever they want.

On top of that, many don’t even earn the minimum income required for the DTV, or they cancel their health insurance just to save money. Because of so many people doing questionable things and abusing the visa, everything has become much more difficult.

It’s difficult to control them since their money is going into a foreign bank account, and income taxes in Thailand are as high as they are in Europe. Most of them will never declare it and want a free cheap life with a DTV
Stephen ********
Stephen ********
Anonymous participant 204 I wouldn't agree that at all, most of them, like myself will have needed loads of paperwork and back up. Like tax docs, prof of company ownership, work contracts etc.. So i fail to see how most wouldn't be paying some, somewhere. Those who are getting away without paying anything elsewhere, will get away with it in Thailand as well.

And tax in Thailand is nothing like the cost in uk.

People not understand how it's works

You lost your remote work permanently what do you do to extend your DTV visa in order to qualified? Many people after getting retirement finish them remote work go for Soft Power in order to extend DTV visa in Immigration office and switch purpose of reentry and visa extension in case if they no longer qualified as remote worker
Nick *******

Alex Ni if you want to change the category you have to leave the country and apply again. A 30 second bit of research would confirm that for you. But you know, carry on making things up.

firstly extend your DTV Worckation by legal way not by using visa runs which is considered gray area, but proper way by extension within Immigration office

While I’m sure the soft power option of the DTV is likely the target of the Thailand Privilege Company I’d probably wait for some sort of actual announcement from the MFA before people start panic buying Muay Thai courses.
