Got a new passport and need to transfer my stamp to my new passport. Also would like to get a tourist visa extension the same day so I don't have to travel to immigration two times. If I book an appointment online for my tourist visa extension, could they also do the transfer of stamps during that appointment or is transferring stamps a completely different counter/location? Is it possible to book an appointment online to transfer stamps?

EXPERIENCE: Changing passports and getting STAMPS TRANSFERRED (for expiring passport AND change of name) for anyone wondering about the process at Bangkok (IT Laksi Square).

Thanks to the group admins for their previous advice - I wasn’t even aware I needed to do this if leaving my land/ferry rather than air. I’d have been either stuck at the border or stuck trying to re-enter later if not for your help.

Process:

If you’re on a visa exemption and have been issued an extension stamp, you must go to the same office that did your extension. In my case, Bangkok. If you haven’t yet done an extension, I assume you can go to any office (Samui/Phuket/Chiang Mai/Trat). In Bangkok at least, the process is free of charge. (If not entirely free of stress.)

There’s a simple, one-page form to fill out. Outlines old passport number, new passport number, and reason for the change.

In my case, not only was I renewing my passport, but my name had changed. This seemed to confuse them a lot. Don’t recommend doing this from overseas but, needs must.

First up at the ticket desk, they told me to go away and that I didn’t need my stamps transferred. Some confusion and discussion and it seems they meant that if you’re flying out, it’s no biggie. They’ll stamp you out at the airport (as per advice from group admins).

I explained I was leaving by land via Laos. They still didn’t want to do the stamp transfer. I then showed them my name change and they conceded.

When I got through to the immigration desk, a very angry woman yelled at me a few times and told me I didn’t need to transfer my stamps.

Explained (all over again) the leaving by land situation. She still said no. Explained the name change situation. She said OK.

It’s very, very important that you have the letter from your embassy showing that you’ve changed/renewed your passport. They will absolutely not assist you without that.

They transferred not only my entry stamp and dates, but the extension stamp. They show the original date of entry and date of extension, but with slightly different stamps (showing today’s date).

I’m not sure why the confusion about needing stamps transferred if leaving by land. Best advice seems to be that yes, you need to do that. Just be prepared to argue your case if neither the ticket desk or immigration officers seem inclined to assist.

Hope that helps a little, if anyone finds themselves in a confusing and frustrating experience, as I did!

I’ve just renewed my passport so my non-o visa based on marriage to a Thai is in my old passport. Do I need to update my TM30 with my new passport details? Also I recently re-entered Thailand on a re-entry permit and did not need to do a TM6. WIll this be an issue when it comes to renewing my non-o? Thanks!

Update on my extension application with full/second passport issue…

Firstly, many thx for your contributions and support, invaluable as always 🙏

Arrived MTT 0840 with pre-completed forms for an extension to stay and stamp transfer, since I was expecting to have to ask for both. I’d also changed my flight to ~55 days after my current exit date and took that.

Document control guy asked me why I wanted to transfer so I explained, but he said something like ‘can’t do that/not necessary’ and indicated they would stamp on the remaining space in my first passport. He also gave me 3 new forms to complete since inevitably the forms I had weren’t theirs, and wanted a photocopy of my current stamp rather than the PDF I’d printed.

Then I was seen immediately by IO and told ‘last time’ and given an extension for 60 days after my current exit date, maybe due to the flight details I proffered (she didn’t ask), and they did indeed squeeze the stamp onto the last available partial page in my passport. Departed before 0920 and most of that was unexpected admin.

So I’m happy and grateful, but no idea about the second passport transfer possibility since ultimately they were flexible it wasn’t required. Thx again all🇹🇭❤️✌️

My new passport is waiting for me in the embassy, however I'm quite reluctant to collect it now (old one is valid for 4 more years, just full). And I'm even more reluctant to go to IO (CW) to transfer the stamps. Do you know what is maximum time I should go to IO to transfer the stamp since new passport collection?

A Common Mistake: while on visa exempt and try to enter with a new passport. In most cases Immigration will mark, when they transfer the stamp to new passport, the number of entries in the passport.
