First visit 8 years ago. Then we went for the spousal visa 4 years ago. We stayed 3 years and had no hassle with extending her visa and finally last year she got permanent right to reside. We've moved back to Thailand now and it seems harder to get the spousal visa for me now. I got a 1 year multi entry from KL about 6 years ago no problem. Apparently Savvanakhet is about the only place that does them now. Guess I'll get heading there when I get onshore...
I'm not a newbie, I've been in Thailand for over 20 years. I just think people like myself who are married to a Thai, have a good income and no interest in working and can prove all of the above should be granted visas more readily. Seem to have to jump through hoops just to come and spend my money here and my life with my family. Its bollocks. When I took my wife to the UK to live for a while we met the criteria, and had absolutely no hassles at all getting 6 month visit visas, then subsequently on other visits spousal visas and eventually permit to reside permanently.
Seems pathetic for a country with such a large population of expats who don't work, don't want to work and do nothing but pour money into the economy. You'd think they'd make it easy.
I do not understand how individual embassies of a nation can offer different services in different locations. Shouldn't the visas on offer at all Thai embassies be the same, as set by Thai governmental policies?
If I was a lazy devious immigration official somewhere and I wanted some easy arrests this is exactly the sort of place I'd look. Now where do you think might have lazy devious immigration officials?
