Matthew Giddings that genuinely made me both smile and work out how much that would be

Good luck, 59 is a good age in life to make a new move. Thailand can be as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be. Also, as in most countries it also depends where you live and the associated lifestyle; if you just want to chill in rural Issan you will be relatively well off, in the posh parts of Bangkok you will struggle to have any quality of big city life.

I would ensure that you spend 181 days in the UK to remain a resident and ensure your pension is not frozen and a maximum of 179 days in Thailand to ensure you are not tax resident in Thailand. 6 month Multiple entry visa is your friend

For all those who say it will never happen. Why did they not exempt foreign pensioners when bringing in the law? Moreover, the LTR visa for wealthy pensioners specifically has a tax exemption benefit. Why, if it is not to tax others? It may well be quite some time before they start cracking down but it is more likely than not that they will at some point. Not hard to get immigration to ask for last years tax return when renewing your retirement visa every year...No one knows for sure but it is such an easy target and governments tax, it is what they do

you get 60 days per visit (that you can extend a further 30 days at any immigration office) every visit for six months. In theory you can make the visa last almost 9 months buy leaving and re-entering just before the six month validity runs out as even if only one day left on the visa they will stamp you in for 60 days, that you can extend by a further 30 days. However it is designed for people who genuinely want to visit neighbouring countries rather than spend 8 months and 28 days in Thailand and 2 single days somewhere else. The Thai visa system is a little complicated but overall is pretty fair there are options for pretty much everyone now

yes, and, while not as neccessary as previously given you can get a succession of 60 day waivers, the point of the post was to tell members the process is far easier, less cumbersome and quicker than it used to be

I was intending to apply for a 6 month multiple entry visa over the summer as I also want to go to Nepal and Vietnam, and then next year apply for a retirment visa. Not sure if it is neccesary anymore. But I do like the certainty of having a visa.
