What is the current process for obtaining a 6-month Multiple Entry Visa for Thailand?

Just a short update on the 6 month Multiple Entry visa. I recently applied for this visa for the 3rd time in three years. It is perhaps not as neccessary/useful as it used to be as you can now receive a 60 day visa waiver on arrival and it seems that you can most likely enter and stay this way several times a year without incurring the £150 visa charge. However, as a frequent visitor, I like the certainty and, as I also like to country hop not just stay in Thailand, this visa suits my needs for now.

Previously they required six months of bank statements and there were lots of odd requirements such as submitting an invitation letter, the i.d. of a Thai National, and a photo of you holding your passport.

Now it is much more straight forward; passport details, picture, proof of country of residence, flights, hotel booking and then simply pay the fee. Applied Monday night, visa approved Thursday night.

I am a UK national.

Seems like Thailand is pushing tourism hard again, as well as wanting to attract wealthier and active long term residents.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent update on the 6-month Multiple Entry visa to Thailand highlights its evolving necessity due to the new 60-day visa waiver on arrival for frequent visitors. The application process has become simpler, requiring only basic documentation and resulting in quick approval. While the visa offers certainty for those who prefer country hopping, some community members debate its necessity given the new visa waiver options. Discussions include comparisons with the DTV, visa duration concerns, and overall satisfaction with Thailand's current visa system encouraging tourism.

Is the 6 month multiple visa valid in 90 day batches ,,meaning after 90 days you need to extend for another 90 days without leaving Thailand ..£150 right ?

you get 60 days per visit (that you can extend a further 30 days at any immigration office) every visit for six months. In theory you can make the visa last almost 9 months buy leaving and re-entering just before the six month validity runs out as even if only one day left on the visa they will stamp you in for 60 days, that you can extend by a further 30 days. However it is designed for people who genuinely want to visit neighbouring countries rather than spend 8 months and 28 days in Thailand and 2 single days somewhere else. The Thai visa system is a little complicated but overall is pretty fair there are options for pretty much everyone now

yes I had the triple visa before ,,but that’s a good few years ago …so it’s pretty similar to the new 60 day on arrival ,,ok thanks for your reply

I understand what you are saying the TR-METV gives you the security and reduces the risk with Customs. Puts your mind at rest, especially when visiting a few times every year, l agree. Some people answer but do not always understand themselves.

yes, and, while not as neccessary as previously given you can get a succession of 60 day waivers, the point of the post was to tell members the process is far easier, less cumbersome and quicker than it used to be

If you feel more secure with a six month visa, then by all means, but you talk about how you like to country hop. With that being the case, then there really is no reason for getting the visa. Up to you
