Yes I sorted out my retirement visa with a 30 day visa exemption., which is plenty enough if you planned ahead and know where you are going live.

Some visas require a criminal record check in Thailand, and if your passport details are with immigration police, then it would not look good for you.

But depends if you were wrongly imprisoned or not I guess.
