Their lunch break finishes at 1pm, and they are always a bit sluggish straight after lunch, so don’t expect to be called right on 1pm, my tip would be get there before that time to ensure you are first in the queue, even though you have an appointment time, good luck.
It is possible, although it is getting harder, you just need to try a fair few banks and branches. In my opinion and experience Bangkok bank seems to make it somewhat easier than the other banks.

Even if your IDP is valid for 12 months, you must show it with your valid home country licence as well. Plus the IDP is only valid for 3 months in Thailand, there has been many cases of insurance companies refusing coverage in Thailand, even though you think your IDP is valid for 12 months, that is just not the case, be careful guys.
The law states they can ask to see proof of onward travel, your hotel or accommodation booking and 20,000 baht in cash or the equivalent in foreign currency, bank statements are not accepted. But in reality they are hardly ever asked for, just be aware that they can be.
