How punctual are Thai immigration offices for appointments?

That depends on the office you are using. Their lunch break finishes at 1pm, and they are always a bit sluggish straight after lunch, so don’t expect to be called right on 1pm, my tip would be get there before that time to ensure you are first in the queue, even though you have an appointment time, good luck.

Can someone open a Thai bank account on a tourist visa while planning to switch to a retirement visa later?

It is possible, although it is getting harder, you just need to try a fair few banks and branches. In my opinion and experience Bangkok bank seems to make it somewhat easier than the other banks.

No unfortunately you cannot bring your vehicle to Thailand, that was banned about 5 years ago.

Yes I would be definitely renewing the passport, as your extension in June will only be until March 2025 when your passport expires. No extension can be longer than the validity of your passport.

Is an international driving license accepted in Thailand or is it often considered invalid?

Even if your IDP is valid for 12 months, you must show it with your valid home country licence as well. Plus the IDP is only valid for 3 months in Thailand, there has been many cases of insurance companies refusing coverage in Thailand, even though you think your IDP is valid for 12 months, that is just not the case, be careful guys.

What amount of cash is required when going through customs in Thailand?

The law states they can ask to see proof of onward travel, your hotel or accommodation booking and 20,000 baht in cash or the equivalent in foreign currency, bank statements are not accepted. But in reality they are hardly ever asked for, just be aware that they can be.

Do immigration officers visit your home during the second 12-month visa extension based on marriage in Thailand?

It is just done randomly after the first year. We haven’t had a visit for many years, but immigration turned up unannounced during my last under consideration period. You can never know if they will turn up or not.
