TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, you can enter the country more than twice per year when arriving by air, despite the limitation of two entries by land. While the current immigration rules state a limit of two land border entries, there is no written rule regulating the number of air entries. However, frequent air entries may lead to scrutiny at the discretion of immigration officers, especially if it appears that you are trying to reside in the country without a proper visa.

yes, there is no official annual limit on air entries to thailand. Max of two by land

As long as you follow a pattern of a tourist visiting other countries, as many people base out of Thailand when they visit countries surrounding Thailand for a week or two. If you are simply exiting Thailand , and coming back a day, or two later, then you are not following a pattern of an actual tourist, and will be stopped, questioned, and many times refused entry until you get the correct visa. Immigration also profiles, and stereotypes, so if you fit into any of their profiling you will be stopped and questioned a lot sooner. Backpackers have the most problems.

Yes you can. In 2018 I entered three times by air and once by land on exemption.

I went in/out six times last year (staying for a few hours to switch airports, sometimes 2-3 days) because I used thailand as a hub while going to Indonesia and Myanmar and was let in without any questions every time

At one point I asked an officer if it could be a problem if i continued doing this and she mentioned they mainly look at how much time was spent IN thailand in total. as long as the amount of time spent IN thailand on excempts is nothing serious they wouldn't question it

exactly, it's the time inside Thailand that matters. Not the number of entries. The limit of two land border entries is just an exception to that principle.

You are correct, but it entirely is up to the immigration officer you are standing in front off. Too many entries they will deny you.

Done it many times. But if your trying to live here flying in and out. Eventually your luck will run out and a IO will pull you aside question you and either let you in with a last time warning or turn you around and send you back

You are correct. The only written rule about visa exempt entries is that you are limited to 2 times per calendar year at a land border.

There is no written rule about number of times if you arrive by air. Do note that you will not be able to stay long term in Thailand using this method, as after a few times you will be pulled out of line at immigration, and asked what you think you are doing. After this you will likely be warned to stop, or possibly denied entry. When will that happen? Impossible to say as it's at the discretion of the immigration officer you are speaking to.
