Anyone with 50+ visa? does money held at local bank can be in foreign currency (Eur/$)? or must it be converted to BHT? Tnx

update from responses

its possible to have a foreign currency account balance shown to immigration, to qualify the requirements.

some responses indicated that it depends in the immigration policy of the specific region, so best is to check with them.

oh, and, perhaps, if the exchange rate changes this could lead to not stand in the needed amount, so such choice needs attention.

one last thing is that only Bangkok bank and KBank allow foreign currency account...

good day everyone and thank you to those who contributed useful information from personal experience.

Do Thai banks charge a ā€œlanding feeā€ or is it a percentage based on how much your transferring..? Any positive advise would be much appreciated.

Hi I hope this question is appropriate for this group. We would be applying for a Retirement visa with the requirement to have 800000 bhat in the account each year and keep the account no lower than 400000 bhat. So my question is...does the money have to be held in a bhat account or can we hold it in a sterling account?

Hi thanks for letting us join

My wife and I have A O retirement visa, we each have the required money in a GBP joint foreign currency account in Krugsri bank.

A few of questions if you could help.

Is a foreign currency joint account ok, we have enough to cover both of us.

When we apply for extension to our visa will we need medical insurance

Is there an up to date list of things we need to have before we go to immigration

Thanks in advance

I am considering opening a foreign currency account here in Thailand. Just wondering if funds in another currency in an account in Thailand is acceptable for immigration as proof of funds for retirement or marriage extensions? Or does the money have to be in Thai baht?

Hi , I'm sure this has came up time and time again, I'm from the uk and currently on 6 month multi visa ( after extensions wd end April) , I'll be 50 in December and want "o" visa/retirement visa what are my best options to do this? I have money in uk but xchange rate is terrible so reluctant to transfer the 800,00 into my Thai bank unless it was worthwhile. Any advice would be appreciated
