:

Car ISUZU Highlander;

Year costs:

Nmbr 1 insurance 17,000฿

Tax 4,000฿

Service 2x 2,000฿ average

So about 25,000฿ a year = about 2,100฿ a month.

Petrol B7 about 36฿ a litre.

With 20.000km a year and 12km a litre = 60,000฿

So 5,000฿ a month.

So a total of 7,100฿ a month.

Ofcourse a smaller car would cost a bit less.

A daytrip with a taxi w'll be around 2,000-2,500฿

Maybe rent a car ? 1,000-1,500฿ without fuel ?

So if you want that e.g. once a week it seems to me (also notice this only now with writing this) that there is not SO much difference in DRIVINGcosts in owning a car comparing to the above (renting a car/taxi)

Maybe renting a car/taxi first and see where it leads ?

But...you have to buy a car first. Mine (new) was about

900,000฿. Second hand maybe you can get one for about 300,000฿ which also will be at least 10 years old.

I live in a village where for almost everything you need a car. Should I live in e.g. Bangkok, Phuket tourist area, Pattaya, I think I would not have bought a car. Even if you then need a taxi for some occasions, they are rather cheap comparing to European countries.

So I think it's also a bit depending for your situation and what you are willing to pay for your freedom.

At least you have an idea I guess. Good luck with you decision.

I think what
@Steve *******
says is the way to do it
@Michael ******
(Go Savannakhet) I don't know if you also need the money for a non imm O MULTI entry ? You can almost get 15 months out of this one with only border hops every 90 days.
Peter ****************
Nope
@Didrik ********
. You also get 45 days visa exempt by landborder. Only restriction is that you may do that only twice per calender year.
Peter ****************
Bonnie Smith, max. 2 times a calender year a land crossing is only for visa exempt entries !! NOT if you have a visa.

Pfff
@Sammy *******
. You say you "never heard of this requirement" (notify addres of stay with TM30 !!!) and then you say "maybe because I have always declared their address on TM6?". No....THAT you did with that TM30 form. NOTHING to do with TM6 !!! THAT has been scrapped for now.

You mixup those two things. TM30 = Notification of stay and TM6 is the departure card (In the past imm. at the airport keeps the arrival card part)

Is it a visa where you talk about or is it a 1 year extension of stay based on retirement
@Vaner ******
. Big big difference. Extension of stay based on retirement the money not have to be international transfer and almost never go under consideration. Go to Thai Visa Thai visa advice group for good info !

The (real 🙄) rule is 2 months before you ask a year extension. But......y'r right, many imm. offices have some other requirements. The 2 months prior, have been implemented the same time that the bank account money, may not drop under the 400k฿ after 3 months.

More possibilities. I would say get a non imm. O Single Entry in y'r home country (90 days) based on retirement. And then after e.g. 60 days here, ask for a year retirement extension. Then also ask for a re-entry permit.

Also you can come in with a Tourist visa and ask for this non imm. O 'in country'. And THEN ask for a year extension based on retirement after e.g 30 days with a re-entry permit.

It's even possible to get this 'in country' non imm. O visa when you come in with visa exempt (So NO visa). This gives you 45 days (entering before 31st of March) to get this in country non imm. O visa.

For the year extensions and in country visa, you need at least have a Thai bank account with 800k฿ on it, (2 months before asking the year extension. Money transfered as international transfer for the in country non imm. O, no seasoning needed) in your name only, for reason of retirement.
