they will presumably pay the tax when they apply for their tourist visa at their embassy, which is moving to Evisa this year I believe…..good news is those of us on retirement visas will be exempt not sure what they will do about DTV

they will also use it to collect the tourist tax that been mooted for past 2 years, and delayed because Airlines, Hotels and Airports refused to enable the collection, for obvious reasons.

if they are renting they need owners involvement in registering a guest…..agreed, a pain but that’s the law

as it is here, aliens have no responsibility hotel or owner of guest house or property I do it for my daughter when she visits, takes 5 mins

no, why should it ? Other countries including France have similar practice - hotels provide authorities details of all guests…..

Check with your embassy or local tourist police office, don’t listen to keyboard warriors, they won’t be around if you have insurance issues or problems with police. Better still get a Thai license as soon as you can, then no debate.

Sooner rather than later, as it seems to be in fashion worldwide . Thailand is usually late to the party lots of reasons for them to implement , not least of all a vehicle for them to collect dreaded tourist tax. I am sure it will be a big announcement when it happens.
