Hey everyone, in reading through as many posts here as I can and after calling the embassy of my home country I'm still a bit confused on how to handle my situation regarding location and residence.

I have a country of residence, I am currently not in (which does NOT have a Thai embassy). I also left my country of citizenship I was visiting recently which does have a Thai embassy with which I spoke to. My business is US based although I'm neither a resident or citizen there and not present there either.

I'm getting a lot of mixed information, I've read that I need documents proving my residence ties to my country of permanent residence (utility bill, residence card etc). I've also read I need proof of my current location, which also often seems to be documents related to residence? So I'm confused.

When I spoke to the representative from the embassy she really emphasized the importance of showing residence ties to your permanent place of residence not my current location, although she seemed to indicate my original home country would be acceptable too.

On another note did anyone apply from their home country that is no longer their permanent residence? If so what documents did you use?

So I'm at a bit of a loss here. I read about people traveling to Laos, Vietnam etc to apply for their evisas, I could do the same and am considering it. I just know my situation is a little more convoluted than most and applying through a foreign embassy as a tourist may only further complicate things. Any suggestions or clarifications are welcome. šŸ™

Hello everyone,

Iā€™m preparing my visa application for Thailand and I have a question about the required documents.

I understand that:

* Point 4 requires the flight ticket/travel booking confirmation.

* Point 5 asks for proof of accommodation in Thailand, such as hotel bookings or an invitation letter from family/friends.

However, Iā€™m unclear about Point 3, which states: ā€œDocument indicating current location.ā€ What kind of document is needed for this? Would it be proof of residence, a utility bill, or something else?

Any advice or examples would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Next month will go to Vientiene to apply for the DTV...

Currently living in Bangkok and have proof of residence, Thai bank accounts (with the necessary funds for the last year) and have enrolled in a Muay Thai class (with dtv authorisation documents)

How many days do you think it will take to get the DTV approved once in Laos?

Thanks in advance for your responses

Hi, I recived this message, can I just send a picture of my entery stamp and my apartment contract? In Vietnam

The Royal Thai Consulate-General would like to request for additional documents as follows:

Document indicating current location: Please update your current location and kindly note that visa processing time is 5 working day. The time is reset once additional document is submitted.

For proof of place in Thailand, would printing a copy of the rental contract be enough?

I was just approved for my DTV and am elated. I submitted my documents to the Washington DC Embassy electronically on October 17 in the afternoon, so 9 business days in total.

I used my drivers license as proof of residence, used a selfie I took on my phone for the picture (against a white wall). Also took picture of my passport with my phone.

I used an American Express savings account statement showing one month of activity ending on October 6 for proof of funds.

I entered a friendā€™s condo address and reception Iā€™ll initially stay at as my residence until I get my own place, and entered the flight number for the last leg of my trip to Bangkok.

I was not asked for any additional information.

I went the soft power route, booking a two-week cooking course through the Bangkok Thai Cooking Academy. I paid them for the cooking course on October 16 via PayPal and received all of the necessary documents for my visa application the following day.

They also said it was fine if you want to split their 4-week course into two parts, and taking the second leg of classes at your convenience.

The director of admissions, Tanawan Malan, is extremely helpful and anyone interested in taking courses at the school, located in On Nut, can reach them here:

Ron@BangkokThaiCookingAcademy.com

All in all, it was a pretty seemless process that maybe took 2-3 hours (from paying the cooking school to getting the documents onto my computer to filling out the forms.) Your mileage may vary.

I cannot really see the point of using an agent if youā€™re doing things above board.

Good luck everyone!

The Thai consulate in Kolkata lists proof of residence as a requirement for applying for tourist visa. Does anyone know if this is a strict requirement and what would qualify? For Burmese passport holder.

Hi everyone,

Iā€™m planning to apply for the DTV in Germany but Iā€™m no longer registered there. Iā€™ve been living in Thailand with an ED visa. What can I provide as proof of residence in this case?

Hi All! This thread has been super helpful so far, so I wonder if anyone has any insight! Background: I'm a Canadian citizen who works remotely, but my banking is with a UK bank since I lived and worked there for the last few years. My freelance work is paid to my UK account.

Does anyone know if the bank statement needs to be in your home country, or do you have to prove residence in the country where your banking is?

Also, this may be a silly question, but is it possible to apply outside your home country? I am a professional traveller looking to make Thailand my home in the next while, but I am not planning on going back to Canada soon unless I need to get this visa.

Thanks all!
