"can't rely on that option being available by March" ???. . .you mean, they want to visit by March 2022 ? Nobody can tell you at the moment what the visa and border situation will be like by March next year. I recommend to check and ask again near the end of this year
"and you must have 800K THB in the bank account at least 3 months before you get your next extension of stay." . . not correct. The 800,000 THB must remain in the account for 3 months after being issued the yearly extension. And they must have seasoned in the account for TWO (not three) months for the next application of a yearly extension of stay
David Broadfoot your idea sounds good, but there is a problem. If a 12th transfer arrives in his account on january 1st, his Thai bank will most probably need a few days up to one week to produce a bank letter of 12 months of transactions. The time he needs is slipping away under his fingers. No, I'd say he has two options: ONE: save up more than 800K in his account so he can use the deposit method (seasoning is 2 months on date of application) or SECOND: doing a border run (by air or whatever is possible) in the months September, October or November and return with a fresh one year insurance (requirements for re-entry, COE and quarantine depending, will apply) He will be stamped in for another 365 days, giving him enough time to use the income method when applying for the next extension in late 2022
yes, if you need to buy time to let the 400,000 THB you need to apply for a 1-year extension based on your marriage season in the bank for the required 2 month period, you have two options - apply for the 60 days extensions unable to fly, or 60-days family visit extension
border runs will most obviously not be re-introduced this year. Why not wait a little longer until the clouds have cleared, by 2022, and multi entry tourist visa become available again ? Open land borders and the multi entry tourist visa will allow both of you much longer stays
however there now are a few more requirements to meet, especially right now with the need to apply for a certificate of entry (COE) alongside the visa. Check the website of the Royal Thai Embassy Washington DC for detail to the requirements
if your Dad fulfills the financial requirement and the need for a yearlong health insurance for Thailand, for applying to the 1-year Non-Imm-O/A visa . . he can be admitted for a yearlong stay without the need of leaving or doing a border run. That's moire than the 90 days he can get from a tourist visa
my buddy in Bangkok has never filed a 90-day report in 26 years. . .but now it seems Immigration is enforcing it, no matter what. He was invited to pay the 2000 THB fine. And this after 26 years of never reporting . . . . you can maybe imagine how pissed off he was 😊
