Why do you care? I do not routinely question strangers about their specific occupation or source or quantity of wealth or income.

It may come up naturally in friendly conversation, but I feel no need to have an infallible litmus test to apply to random strangers.

So, opening a Thai bank account is difficult these days, but not impossible.

However, you can only open in person. Best to use an agent - Bangkok Bank seems to be the bank most interested and willing to set up a foreigner.

Expect to pay 1500-5000 baht fee to agent. Then an hour or so at the bank signing enough papers to kill two trees. However, you will exit the bank with a working debit card and their very useful ap installed on your mobile.

These are the conditions at the moment. In a few years, who knows?

you mention PC . . . do you have the mobile banking ap on your phone or tablet?

Because my understanding is that Bangkok Bank now only supports ap usage/installation on a single device.

Immigration officers have complete latitude and authority to deny you, with almost zero chance of review and reconsideration. End of story.

Enter twice visa exempt per year. No problem. You may get away with more, but you're really tempting fate.
