I thought exactly the same when I arrived 5 months ago..
The way it works: Your partner will get the Non-B visa which will be valid for 90 days in Laos. She will have to let 50% of her visa expire meaning 45 days before she can apply for the 1 year non-B visa.
Once she received the non-B visa 1 year.. her company can provide the paperwork for your application.
So you are looking probably at 50-60 days before you can apply for your Non-O visa as her spouse.
Your wife can just apply for the initial work-permit online or in your countries Thai embassy. There is no need to fly in on a tourist visa for her & then fly out again. Seems like a waste of time & resources.
For your depend visa.. you won’t be able to apply for the visa for at least another 45 days after your wife got hers.
I was wondering the same, what if I bring 5L extra with me in my luggage & declare it? Can I just pay customs duty & keep it? Or will they confiscate this?
Good luck if she doesn’t have money in the bank, you will have to mention you will be responsible for her. Show your bank statements & income. (10K euro should be fine).
Even you show this she will have to most likely proof also that she has a reason to return to her country. (Property, School, Job,.. ) since apparently hasn’t any income it will be difficult. if you are around the age of 20-30y old they will be afraid she won’t return & stay without valid reason to return).
Safer you stay out of it, deposit every month money in her bank account for like 3-6 months long so she can apply independently for her tourist visa. Otherwise it will raise a lot of red flags.. chances are small. Once rejected a second application might be even more difficult. Or she should apply for a tourist visa through a group tour travel, might work.
