IO open 2nd January. Will be busy but usually they are lenient if office was closed on day your visa exemption expired.

I had my tourist visa approved with a return flight 6 months ahead of my arrival date. The only people who usually ask are your airline and showing them your visa is enough to satisfy their boarding requirements.

 from UK evisa takes 3 to 5 days. Only delay is if they ask for more information and you miss the email.
