I think I entered the country on the 1st of December. Now I want to get a visa extension. But silly me didn't think about them closing on weekends... Can I get an extension on the 1st of january?

(And if they are not open then, is it a problem that I am later? Im in Koh Phangan btw)

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on extending their visa after entering Thailand on December 1, questioning whether they can do it on January 1, given that the immigration office is closed on weekends. Community responses indicate that the immigration office will reopen on January 2, and while there may be an overstay stamp in the passport, there is no fine due to the office closure on the expiry date. Users suggested checking the entry date in the passport and filing for an extension earlier if possible.

Immigration is open on 2nd but your issue is as of 1st you are on overstay if you get caught out between 1st and when IO opens again you may have a bigger problem Chokh di

You think you entered on December 1? Very easy to open your passport and check the date.

Depends where it is thought the passport is?

For your reference in future, your Visa Exempt tourism extension can usually be applied for as soon as you have accomodation and a TM30 filed so, as the extension is added to your current "exit" date, there is no need to leave it until the end of your stay (unless you're in a location such as Pattaya and Samui who only allow tourism extensions in the last 7 days).

Check your entry date in your passport. Immigration is closed on Monday. I beleive it is open on Tuesday. You might get an overstay fine if you are over 30 days assuming you entered with 30 days Visa exempt.

IO open 2nd January. Will be busy but usually they are lenient if office was closed on day your visa exemption expired.

No problem, as long you're not caught before going to extend.

Open again on January 2nd. You can get the extension then. You will get a small overstay stamp in your passport, but no fine as the office was closed on the expiry date
