Education visa and “tourist” are mutually exclusive. If you’re here on an education visa, you’re here to get an education. The fact that tourists have historically used education visas (& that’s become more difficult due to abuse) does not change its definition.
You can find numerous things to study on an education visa. The obvious ones are Thai & Muay Thai. One can also go to university and study a plethora of subjects. Cordon Bleu has a school in Bangkok if you want to be a chef. I’m sure other schools exist as well. I know of no exhaustive “list” anywhere.
I’m aware. As I said, “very few”. Yet, as you pointed out, the laws are still different. So, again, I say…”anyone from elsewhere advising you on what was required” from their experience “does not know”.
I do think some of the laws are whacky. However, I am amazed when farangs complain about meeting some of the immigration requirements when Thais can rarely even enter the farang's home country.
I've been in the "community" group for Siem Reap for years. I had considered moving there as an option as well. Numerous people have moved from Thailand to SR and they seem very happy. Is life more simple than in , say Bangkok? You bet. That's why they love it.
The bank will absolutely need it. I would not give it to the agent though. I would go into the bank with them and give it directly to the bank.
This requirement is only for U.S citizens, so anyone from elsewhere advising you on what was required does not know. The U.S. is one of very few countries that taxes its citizens on income received outside its country. Additionally...the Patriot Act added requirements.
you don’t need to be in Thailand to take an online class. As such, online classes don’t qualify for visas. Decide where you want your stay, then folks can recommend schools. Duke is so good that it has a long wait though. That tells you something.
