What documentation do I need to bring for an extension at the IT Square immigration office in Bangkok?

Update: thank you to everyone who lended assistance. I’m now sitting in the food court below immigration, feeling a sense of accomplishment. 🤣🤣🤣. I’m now (sort of) over my fear of immigration. The woman at the counter was fierce 🙂 and this is coming from someone described as fierce herself, but I have my stamp.

I am amused that my stamp is until 5/12. I will be leaving Thailand and returning before that date. I expect a bit of a head tilt at immigration since they are so accustomed to folks trying to live here on visa extensions and border runs, lol, but so be it. Again, thank you!!!

I

Original post: Ok, I’m really sorry for this question. I swear that I’ve searched the history of the group, but I’m not finding this precise answer. I know it must be there, but I’m not seeing it.

I forget all the terms, but I’ll try to answer all relevant questions and avoid the snark as best as possible:

I’m American (that’s what immigration forms call me…there’s no such thing as United Statesian)

I will be in Bangkok

I was stamped in with no visa…whatever term that is

I am unexpectedly, but happily, needing an extension. My main question is, what documentation do I need to bring? Do I need to get a copy of the TM30 from the hotel or do I just need to bring my passport? What else might I need to bring?

Also, I’m staying at Phrom Phong. Is the closest immigration office that Short-term visa office at:

C039, C040/3 อาคาร IT Square, Chaeng Watthana Rd, Talat Bang Khen, Lak Si, Bangkok 10210

I only have a couple days in which to handle this due to my travel plans, so I want to make sure that when I go in, I’m fully prepared.

Thanks so much.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster shared their success in obtaining an extension stamp at the immigration office and outlined their need for clarity on required documentation for the extension process. They queried whether a TM30 form from their hotel was necessary and confirmed the location of their nearest immigration office. Responses highlighted that the TM30 is typically filed electronically and a copy may not be needed if it is filed correctly, but it is good practice to ask for one. The key required documents for an extension include a passport, a TM7 form, recent passport photos, and cash for fees. It was also emphasized to go early and familiarize oneself with the office's location to avoid complications.

Thailand visa advice and everything else... You are Brilliant

Yes the immigration office is at IT square, there are 3 forms you need to fill in the TM7 and two others, yes you will need your passport, a recent passport photo, copy of your passport and incoming stamp on your passport. Cash to pay. there is place where you can get copies done next to the office, if you go early before shopping center opens, enter through the 711 store. its a bit confusing. you can catch the train there. hope this helps

TM 7 is the form u need
Andy ***********
You can get the form here … i did it a few months ago and they asked for another form … not sure of the number .. they had no interest in TM30 but it is a requirement

Brazilian South American's get a very different visa exemption stamp on arrival to many. 90 days vs 30... Hence it depends where in the America's you come from
Ruth *******

@Lyndon ***********
and what part of “that’s what immigration forms call me…there’s no such thing as United Statesian” led you to believe I could be from Brazil thus making you worried you might provide the wrong information (not that you’ve actually provided any)?
Lyndon ************
@Ruth ******
Americans from certain parts of Central America also have their own problems... And you said you weren't United Statesian... Where are you from?

and a Brazilian is a Brazilian. If a Brazilian said they were “American” on an immigration form, their exemption status would be the least of their problems.

FWIW, You're part of a "snarky", but helpful, group. Why not embrace it wholly, instead of adding your own "snarky" remarks? Maybe invest in a bit of SAM or Teflon. You don't know the snarkers, and they don't know you, so no need to feel it's a personal attack on your good and joyful soul. Fly above it and scroll past the remarks that you find offensive. Everyone will understand...

If I were to draw a Venn diagram of the most helpful people and the snarkiest, the two would not intersect.

Meanwhile, Lyndon's comment is not only snarky, it's ignorant and unoriginal. The same type of comment is posted multiple times per week, every time someone says they're American. It's ignorant.

I have completed two immigration forms in the last few months where my citizenship was asked (I think they were in Germany and Singapore). In both cases, while "country of residence" was "United States", "citizenship" was American, which, honestly, is a bit confusing for those of us completing the forms (only if we are trying to find the name in a dropdown), but should not be an issue for those on a forum. They know exactly what folks mean. I hope, at least, that folks do...was Lyndon honestly confused?

When I traveled throughout Central America and said I was from the United States, actually trying to be sensitive to exactly this issue, people would respond, "Oh, you're American." I stopped bothering. I actually usually tell folks my state nowadays, since the U.S. is so large and diverse and most folks (throughout the world, including Canadians, who are the ones whom I most run into from the Americas, other than those from the U.S.) still say, "Oh, you're American".

I set this "joke" (if it can even be called that when it's so old and tired) off at the pass in my post, so why was it necessary? Why is ignorance funny?

But, I'll remind you that he also could have just scrolled by rather than to ask me a question that I'd already answered.

My suggestion to Fly above it isn't easy, I know it's not for me, and I sometimes succumb, but I keep trying, and attend my SA (Snarkies Anonymous) meetings at least once a week 😉. Best of luck to you 🙏

I’m an American. I need to rise above plenty of my own. I don’t feel a need to rise above ignorance. That’s just me.

The extension is added on to your current entry stamp, so you don't lose days by going in early. As long as your hotel filed a TM30 on you then IT Square, on the third floor, won't ask you for a copy, as it is in the system. If one wasn't filed then they will not extend you until that detail is taken care of. As long as you have your passport with you, everything else copy and photo wise can be done there, if you need these services.

Thank you. I’m actually not worried about the length. My current stay ends on Nov. 5th. I’m now leaving on the 15th (I hope). I just need to get this settled in the couple days I’m in Bangkok. Traveling is complicated for me, because I’m carrying refrigerated medication. I don’t want to go to Hua Hin, if I’m going to encounter an immigration issue and need to rush back to leave the country. I don’t anticipate one, because I’ve not been in Thailand since 2020. However, I just don’t want to take any chances. Murphy hates me 🙂.
Kool *******
@Ruth ******
it usually takes longer to get out to IT Square than the extension process takes, as that is all they handle there are visa exempt 30 day entry extensions. It is pretty fast process.

Based on the information the only office you can use is the office at IT Square Laksi. You can ask your hotel for a copy of the TM30 but usually in Bangkok as long as they can see it was done in the system it's okay. But you asking them for a copy ensures it was done.

I've attached an image with the most common requirements though offices may vary slightly.

should copies be color or b&w?

Oh, wow! I just actually looked at the list. This is really helpful. I will try to make an appointment. I also forgot about the attire…phew! I hope the hotel can help me with the copying and printing. I have no idea where to go for such things.

@Ruth ******
there's copy shops on either side of the immigration office at IT square. Photos cost about 100B if I remember correctly and a couple baht per document photocopy.

I knew that offices differed, which is why I asked. Thanks for the list. I appreciate it.
