Update: I figured out the problem. What a royal mess. So, despite the fact that obviously the country code comes before the phone number in terms of fields on the page, the country code must be chosen AFTER the phone number in order for the phone number to be accepted. Makes perfect sense, right? Pete wins! "Clunky" is an understatement. I discovered this by trying to change the country code to Thailand thinking maybe it simply didn't like the U.S. (kidding...sort of) then switching it back...voila. It worked.

ok, this falls under the "everything else" category.
For months, I've been having prhoblem after problem after problem with the AirAsia website. The most recent is today and I'm wondering if any other Americans (meaning folks still having a U.S. phone number and/or emergency contacts in the U.S.) have run into the same and, if so, what they've done to work around it.
The website will not accept my cell phone nor that of my daughter as being valid mobile numbers. As a result, I cannot book a ticket. This is urgent as I'm trying to book a ticket for Tuesday. For those who might say, "Just try another airline". VietJet's website won't do a search at all for the dates I'm trying, even though third party sites say there are flights and the app won't open without an error, lol. It seems someone doesn't want me to take this flight (maybe a sign?).
Thanks to anyone who may have encountered this and be able to share a solution. I could not think of where else to ask, because AirAsia has taken weeks to respond to previous inquiries.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user encountered issues while booking flights on the AirAsia website, which wouldn't accept their U.S. phone number, preventing ticket booking. Despite multiple attempts and an urgent need to secure a flight, various suggested solutions included using the app, considering alternative airlines, or utilizing local travel agents. Feedback from the community provided different workarounds, but ultimately, the user found a method that resolved the issue by necessary adjustments in entering the country code and phone number.
I tried all sorts of variety of numbers to see if it was just looking for a different number of digits...no luck. I don't know why it thinks it knows better than I what is my mobile number :-(
I've flown domestically with AirAsia, Bangkok Airways and Thai Lion Airways all through booking tickets through Airpaz ...and yes, we live here in Thailand too.
I probably should have been clearer in my post. I will fix it now. I meant people who still have a U.S. phone number. That seems to be what's causing my problem, although I didn't try this site. Third party sites don't generally allow one to check seating availability prior to booking which is rather critical for me.
. I will say every internal/domestic flight I've booked since we moved here have been Standby when I've checked in and only allocated seating once at the airport. My experience.
for future reference, Nok is a reasonable airline? I actually did consider them. I could get all the way to the purchase page, but I’d never heard of them. I was a bit concerned they might be the Spirit Airline of the East (a reference only those who have flown in the U.S. might understand).
I haven't tried that with AirAsia yet (I really hate downloading a bunch of apps). When I tried with VietJet, it was a royal cluster...ummmm...mess, shall we say. It would not even open.
I just still have my U.S. phone number. After numerous tries though, it eventually took MY number, but it won't take my daughter's number and she's certainly in the States. I have no emergency contacts in Thailand.
that does not solve my problem. First of all, I'm not permanently here, so there's no reason to do so. Secondly, I still need to enter an emergency contact. My emergency contact is not here. As I said, on one of my attempts, it actually accepted my number but not my daughter's. No matter what my SIM is, my daughter is still not in Thailand. I'm not sure why I need to pickup a SIM just to bypass one field on the AirAsia site when it doesn't solve my problem.
I’m actually going to look into airalo (which I recently learned about). I don’t want to have to switch between sims. I didn’t ask for life advice. AGAIN, a SIM would not have solved this problem and not having one has not caused any issues, so I’m not sure why you’re so focused on this.
I'm not getting a seat assignment option :-(. I'm going to try one more time with an upgraded ticket (it didn't say seat assignment was part of an upgrade but it usually is).
hmmm...not a bad idea. I'm not sure where there is one nearby, but I'll ask. If they can get past the issue, perhaps they'll know why there is one :-).
Use Google flights. It'll have all the airlines and multiple options for prices with links to various booking sites as well as direct. Then just pick the booking site with the cheapest rate.
thank you. I considered that. However, that's not practical to need to do every time I need to book a ticket traveling around Asia. I'm trying to figure out why the site seems to not be accepting U.S. phone numbers (and I've tried multiple browsers just in case the browser was the issue). I've tried four different numbers, none of which work. It just keeps telling me to enter a "valid mobile number". They are all valid numbers. I was just hoping another American had encountered this and might have found a workaround.
I've tried that. The only problem is that, due to medical issues, I need to be able to choose seating beforehand (if proper seating is not available, I may not be able to fly). I can't do that with third party bookings.
