I am coming upon the time to do my first non-O extension based upon retirement. I’m in Bangkok. I would like to check something.

I seem to recall reading that the bank book update and letter from the bank needs to be either from the day before or the day one goes to immigration. I’m hoping it’s the day before, so I can go first thing in the morning. I’m not finding documentation about this online. Can anyone with experience share?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of extending a NON-O visa based on retirement in Bangkok requires specific documentation regarding bank statements. Although official guidelines state that the documentation should reflect the day of the application, many users in the community have shared that for the bank letter, it can usually be obtained a day prior. However, the bank book must be updated on the same day of the application. Users recommend handling these tasks early in the morning, especially at the Chaeng Watthana immigration office, which offers convenient facilities for updating bank books. There are differing interpretations of these requirements based on personal experiences, emphasizing the importance of checking with the local immigration office for precise guidelines.

You can get the bank letter the day before but you need the bank book updated the day you apply. This was my case In December in Hua Hin

each office has different requirements. I’m in Bangkok, but thanks.

@Ruth ******
then why don't you ask them

because I have an injured leg ( just tripped yesterday and set myself back weeks in recovery) and getting around is difficult. The Bangkok office is quite difficult to reach. This group is supposed to be for advice…you know, RELEVANT information, not information that is of no value whatsoever to the question posed by the person asking. Thank you for asking.

You do realize this is not a school homework assignment. You’re not required to participate if you have no valuable input.

My office requires everything dated on the day of application.

is your office CW? I stated that I’m in Bangkok and that’s the office about which I need info. Thanks.

@Ruth ******
I was trying to point out that all offices can have differing requirements so it is best to go to your office and ask.

I asked if people had experience with my office. My office is a 2 hour trip and then some (each way) if taking public transit. By car/taxi, it’s still an hour each way. If I can avoid an extra trip, I’d prefer to do so. Lastly, I have trouble walking & every step and standing (for example, in line) is excruciating. This attitude of so many that one should just go to the office, because it’s so easy to do, is ableist.

I asked for help from those with experience at my office. If you have none to offer, you need not debate me.

@Ruth ******
sorry to hear about your predicament but as a last ditch attempt to help you could I suggest you ring your office? Many have English speaking Officers.

While I appreciate your attempt to help, that is also not an option. No option on the menu at the immigration office is for extension of stay. Most options on the menu are not in English at all after choosing English on the main menu. If one chooses any of these, one gets the same message repeatedly. I know enough (very little) Thai to know what numbers they're stating, so I choose those numbers to stay on the line to no avail. The one option that gets me a human reaches a general information officer who is not an immigration officer. He then gave me that same main number to reach an immigration officer.

To sum things up, calling does not work as well...which comes as no surprise. I cannot remember the last time I was able to get service anywhere by phone.

So, again, I was looking for someone with personal experience having gone to Bangkok immigration.

I’m with Bangkok bank and I go in at 10 when it opens they do me a letter and I take it with the updated bank book.However last year I was home for 7 months and was told it was not detailed enough and the immigration guy asked me to do a print off of my statements and could do this through the app. It was because he did not know if I went below 400k. Different rules in different situations FYI

first year, so that should not be an issue.

I’m in Samui. Been the same requirement here since I’ve been here. So to make everything easy for immigration I go to the bank first thing. 8:30, pay for the print out then with a highlighter pen I mark all my international transfers. Then I add them up and write the figure down. Better too much than too little

the bank is open at 8.30am

Same day that you apply, but it is pretty easy at Chaeng Watthana immigration, as the major banks all have ATMs , and update bankbook automated machines, then a little ways away, copy center to copy your bank book same day. This can all be done after you get your number place in the morning queue. You can all get it done out there in less than 20 minutes at the most.

@Kool ******
Hmmm...I've never updated my book at a machine. Interesting.
Roberto *********
Bangkok is day before for bank letter, up to seven days before for bank statement, and bank book updated on the day (which can be done at CW, except for SBC, which does not have a branch at CW)

@Roberto ********
I'm with Kasikorn. They have a machine at immigration? I've never updated the book at the machine, so I'll have to try that in the coming days.
Joan *********
@Ruth ******
you will also need to either withdraw or deposit a small amount so that the balance shown is truly of that day itself
Ruth *******

@Joan ********
btw, you were correct. A deposit WAS needed. They were very nice and even gave me copies of the necessary pages though
Roberto *********
@Joan ********
Not if you go into the bank. They will just update on the day, no deposit or withdrawal required
Joan *********
@Roberto ********
that’s what I thought too when I went there the first time. But they told me that the bank book will not print the balance with the date of that day if there was no deposit or withdrawal on that day. But other banks may have a different practice.
Roberto *********
@Joan ********
Yes I can only go by Bangkok Bank. You get an entry which states B/F (Brought forward)

I'm going to the bank today to try to get everything in order to go to immigration tomorrow. I will also try using the ATM to update my bankbook. I did notice that the last time it was updated the current date was not included. I guess I will need to do a small deposit or withdrawal or deposit as Joan stated. I will check with them though...maybe there's a way to force the extra entry. Thank you both for the help.
Roberto *********
@Ruth ******
If there is a branch at CW you simply take your book in and ask the teller for an update. This will make a B/F entry in your book. But yes, making a deposit or withdrawal will have the same effect
Ruth *******

@Roberto ********
I was asking if there was a branch, not how to ask a teller to update the book.
Roberto *********
@Ruth ******
So you're that helpless you can't simply Google it?
Ruth *******

@Roberto ********
given that Google tells me that there are local branches that don’t exist or hours other branches are open that they are not, then I guess yes. If you don’t want to be helpful, you simply don’t need to respond.
Roberto *********
@Ruth ******
You seem to think I should know EVERY bank at CW and the opening hours? You were sarcastic with me when I tried to be helpful. Bangkok Bank no deposit or withdrawal is required, they just update. I can't comment on EVERY bank. Entitled Americans make me sick
Ruth *******

@Roberto ********
never once did I ask you about their hours. I merely noted that your snarky “advice” to Google was absurd due to Google’s inaccurate information about opening hours or even whether bank branches exist. In my neighborhood, there’s a branch listed that is only an ATM. Another branch is listed as opening at 8:30 am. It opens at 11:00 am. That’s all I was saying. Google’s information is only as reliable as the information it receives from human beings. I’m always amused when people tell others to Google rather than to ask people.

Meanwhile, you presented yourself as knowledgeable on the subject and willing to help. I asked a simple question. No one said you needed to answer. Funny thing about we Americans…we actually ARE willing to help as you may see in my numerous responses to other people’s posts. Perhaps that’s why we expect basic courtesy from others. Meanwhile, I’M sarcastic? Seriously?

@Roberto ********
is there an actual bank at CW? I have an injury, so I really want to make sure this is one trip.
Joan *********
@Roberto ********
neither does UOB last time I was there, but there is a branch on CW road nearby where I go after taking my number at immigration

Formal requirements are “on the filling date”. I’m quite confident that the day before will be sufficient and hope someone with personal experience can verify this.
