If you don't have access to someone who can translate for you then recommend you download the Google Translate app to your phone and use the camera function for on the fly translation.

I lived in Greece and sent my daughter to Greek kindergarten. She did fantastic, picked up the language lucky-split, and certainly wasn't traumatized.

Recommend the 800K method. If there is a mistake in just one of your monthly transfers and the transfer is NOT documented as an international deposit, you will need to scramble to resend another 65K, to try and get the deposit listed as coming from outside of TL. If you just put 800K in an account, the potential problems with xfers is alleviated.

I think the real question is will your airline allow you to board the plane. I'd call and ask.

as you said in your original post "the problem is that there is a very high chance your airline will not allow them to fly." This was my point too.

my point was that the airline would not allow her to board the plane.

My daughter had a ticket to Italy to visit a friend. She flew domestic to NYC and the airline would not allow her to board the international flight because her passport expired in 4 months. Subsequently she lost her airfare and acquired unforseen expenses with regard to local accommodations and transportation back to her hometown. IMO your partner needs to apply for an expedited passport, if that is possible.

I don't believe he *has to* have health insurance but it would be wise to have health insurance. Most people (not all) develope issues which require health care in their 60's and beyond. All one has to do is to look at the price health insurance premiums to see this is true. Additionally, what if he has an accident? Like a scooter accident? These are very common here.
