TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, foreign children can attend local Thai kindergartens, but there may be tuition fees involved. While there are no specific visa requirements for attending kindergarten in Thailand, parents should consider the language barrier and cultural differences that their child might face in a Thai-speaking environment. Local kindergartens cater primarily to Thai children and may not have English-speaking staff. There are also some informal options, such as community classes for younger children, that may be more affordable.

In the Thai public schools, there are usually 2 levels. 1. Basic level. And a Second level for families who can afford to pay more. Not nearly as much as international schools. When we moved to Sattahip, we enrolled our daughter in the second level. There is a significant improvement over her former school.

Don't know the names. Just know there been 2 different schools available, in the village and in Sattihip. Depending how much family was willing to pay.

There are some Mum and Baby type classes that you can go to, usually take children to 3yrs old and pay by the session. Search for the BAMBI group and ask there 😊

My parents dropped me into an Egyptian kindergarten. We had only recently arrived in Egypt and the culture and expected behavior was vastly different from the USA. Nobody spoke one word of English, and I spoke no Arabic. I was punished for my western attitudes and behaviors with absolutely no idea what I might have done to deserve a teacher screaming at me and cuffing me around the head and ears.

It was an extremely traumatizing experience I still remember vividly, decades later.

What you are proposing is potentially cruel and harmful.

Nothing wrong with Thais or their schools, but leaving your home and family for school can be traumatic enough, without adding cultural and language barriers.

I find it amazing that you are framing this as an economic problem without thinking first about what’s best for your child’s well-being.

with my years in the ME think assimilation into a Thai School,at the age, will be much easier but you bring up good points.

Me too brother. I went to Catholic school while living in Florida as a child.

After awhile I just got used to it. Now I am nearly 50 and I turned out ok.

Forigners cannot go to public schools. You'd have to find a cheap, local preK school.

You have to ask yourself, if your child doesn't understand Thai how traumatized are they going to be, as they do not teach language at that level of schooling. You can get your child into the regular level ones, just make sure your child won't be traumatized by the experience, as there will be no English being spoken.

Trauma isn’t what happens, it’s what happens when what happens isn’t spoken to or acknowledged.

100% a child waking into a room where there is (yet) no common language experiences some level of trauma (which is on a spectrum).

It’s really how the parent/guardians/teachers handle the situation and whether or not the child feels safe in expressing the challenges they’re facing that makes all the difference.

I went to first grade in Holland without speaking the language and was fine.

What was traumatic is that I wore American underwear and my classmates wore Dutch underwear and they made fun of that a bit.

The teacher calmed them down and would help if I didn't understand something.

Most all Thai teachers I have met can speak a little English also.

😆😆😆 Seriously? How many kids havent moved country and learn new languages? Kids learn so fast and will be so grateful later that they learn it at young age.

I lived in Greece and sent my daughter to Greek kindergarten. She did fantastic, picked up the language lucky-split, and certainly wasn't traumatized.

my grandson didnt speak thai and hadcto enter a very basic thai school, a bit if a struggle at first but it makes kids stronger to face change and adapt. All this being traumatised stuff seems to be a western thing. On local uk social media there was non stop "mental health" crises because kids might wear a mask.

There is no visa requirement for studying in Thailand. A toddler does not need a Ed visa for a kindergarten.
