Should be obvious, but be careful non the less. Unsolicited “agent”, no profile photo, no website and not online trail whatsoever. And horrible English lol.
I am not sure if this has been shared before but I was so surprised that it's right there in plain sight! -- A TDAC scam!
My daughter flew in last night and I forgot to tell her about the required TDAC requirement. So in a hurry, I googled TDAC and found a legit looking form and sent it to her.
She filled it up but it came to a Payment page which seemed required to be paid by the traveller. Told her that I knew that it was free, definitely no fees.
So I thought it was a glitch that she made -- so I did it for her and true enough -- there was a required $59.99 fee (in USD) and $20 for fastest 4 hour processing!
Hmm.... call the government contact center as I wondered if I missed the memo ...or some announcement.
Anyway, they gave me the correct website [members only] -- which was somewhere at the bottom of my search. Seems like the scammers are better at optimizing SEO than Thai government.
Just so shocked that the digital police can't keep this vital immigration site clear of scammers!
Recently, I had a somewhat strange interaction with a member of this group claiming to be a visa agent.
I have a DTV, and I plan to re-enter Thailand after a short tour of a neighboring country. I searched the forum's posts and on one post I found a comment of someone claiming to be an agent and willing to help out people. So I contacted this person with the intention of gaining information, in case I had overlooked anything.
However what sounded a bit weird was that this person, who claimed to be a visa agent, repeatedly insisted upon seeing my passport photocopy and my DTV, saying they will "check the prices" with their sister working at the checkpoint. When they asked my nationality and I told them I am from India, they said it will be quite expensive for me (the exact amount in the range of 7000-9000 baht) to re-enter.
Even after I told them several times that I have a DTV already, but they kept insisting that I avail their services, and I should share my passport stamp and bio, and DTV copy with them right now, because if I get stopped at the checkpoint later on it would be "considerably more expensive for India" - quote.
This left an overall somewhat shady impression, as if they were trying to gain information and attempt to stop a lawful entry in order to extort money under some pretext. Foolish of me to talk to an agent for something I could very well do on my own, but I have never had such a bad interaction with any agents before, so I thought it might be worth talking to an agent to gain more insights. I got none, though, only a warning that it will cost me money to re-enter, and a repeated request to see my passport and DTV.
Has anyone ever had interactions like this before? Is anyone being extorted by agents at land border checkpoints even if you have a DTV?
I'm a 46 year old woman from UK. I'm planning on moving to Thailand on DTV soon and looking to rent a property for myself for 3, 6 or 12 months. (I may move around Thailand but coming to Phuket first). I've heard there are lots of scams with renting property.
Can I ask what I need to check in terms of documents, information, credentials, bank accounts, ID, qualifications and anything else to make sure both the agent and landlord are legitimate and my rent is going to the correct account etc?
Edit. I'm aware to not transfer online and wait to view and meet the person. My question is related to documents, info ID as above.
how to make sure not to get scammed by agent? i heard so many people paid first payment to agent, then agent runs away and owner kicks you out of house because he says he didnt got the money
