If you live Manitoba or west contact the consulate in Vancouver. They are very helpful and don't mind answering questions. The website has clear instructions on visa options. If Ontario or east, then it's the Thai Embassy in Ottawa... also clear visa options available but they aren't as helpful.
The cost for SETV is $60... or was recently. You apply online and turnaround is usually 3-7 business days.
If you don't want to deal with the application process for the 60 days single entry tourist visa, you can do visa exempt. It just means a trip to immigration during your stay.
You need to pay for the fare that allows free cancellation... most regular airlines offer this. It will cost you more upfront and if they change the policy between booking and when you cancel, you could be screwed.
If you don't need the actual ticket and it's just to show a document use onward ticket or one of those services.
we did this in November 2021. Brought a copy of our tax summary page showing income, sorry don't remember the exact form number, and marriage license, was done in 30 minutes. We did have bank statements as backup but they were not requested. Immigration accepted the letter and our Non O yearly extension based on retirement was done in less then 40 minutes.
Not that the American Embassy has any relevance to a Canadian or the Canadian embassy, but chances are you'll get a quicker appointment. If the embassy in BKK has a delay check the consulate in Chiang Mai. We got an appointment within 2 days of contacting them and affidavit of income and marriage done within 30 minutes.
also Canadian. We entered with Non O's obtained from the Thai consulate in Vancouver, they were very helpful. The only reason we did this was because I am trailing spouse on my husband's retirement extension.
If you aren't doing that, just enter on visa exempt as mentioned. You can go to the Canadian Consulate in Chiang Mai for your affidavit letter. Email them at "

”. We were able to get an appointment within 2 days of originally contacting them.
not sure what country you are from but check to see if your embassy does an income verification letter. That means you don't need to deposit the 800K THB. They also validate your wedding certificate so you can add your wife as a trailing spouse. I know Canada still does this but not sure what other countries do.
Also if you want to go the trailing spouse route, so you both don't have to open a bank account, it's better if you both arrive on a Non O if possible.
