Hello everyone..I read different opinions about opening a bank account in Thailand..Im going there on TR visa (60) days and I’m hoping to apply for Non O visa at 50 years old next year(Not sure if I’m applying for Non O -A visa in my country yet) Kasikorn,Bangkok Bank and Siam Commercial Bank all can take transfers over 50,000 baht through ~Transfers Wise~
If I can get one open now it will be easier to have my 800,000 baht come time..Any suggestions? 🙏🏼 Ps.. All have a Thai address I can use…

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the challenges and necessary requirements for opening a bank account in Thailand while holding a Tourist (TR) visa, particularly for someone planning to apply for a Non O visa later. It highlights that some banks, such as Bangkok Bank, may require a residence certificate or the purchase of insurance to open an account, while others might deny account opening without a work permit. There are also concerns about using international services like Wise for fund transfers, especially for those banking in Canada.

Also if you bank in Canada be aware that many banks (TD Canada Trust for example) you can't set up Wise as payee and you have to physically visit bank for wire transfer. Wise tells us we can use debit card or credit card (have yet to complete this) so would need to talk to bank to increase debit limit if necessary.
With a residence certificate from immigration some banks might open an account. Bangkok Bank will typically do so with the purchase of a one year accident insurance policy. Many banks flat out no without a work permit. It will vary bank to bank, branch to branch.
