Help please. I am a Canadian and my husband is a British but a permanent Canadian resident. We are flying to Bangkok from Canada landing on November 6th, 2022. We plan to stay in Thailand until January 16th, 2023 then flying from Phuket to Bali. On April 1, 2023 we return to Phuket and travel up to Bangkok to fly home on April 8, 2023. What visa do we need and how do we get it? We are so confused.

I'm not aware of any visa that allows you stay in bali 60+ days?

Generally, must westerners can enter visa exempt 30 days. So it's cheaper often to switch country every month than do visas. At least less paperwork etc.

If you live Manitoba or west contact the consulate in Vancouver. They are very helpful and don't mind answering questions. The website has clear instructions on visa options. If Ontario or east, then it's the Thai Embassy in Ottawa... also clear visa options available but they aren't as helpful.

The cost for SETV is $60... or was recently. You apply online and turnaround is usually 3-7 business days.

If you don't want to deal with the application process for the 60 days single entry tourist visa, you can do visa exempt. It just means a trip to immigration during your stay.

You will apply for 60 days Single Entry Tourist Visa that you can extend when you are in Thailand, yielding a total of 90 days to stay. For the return flight, you just stay 1 week so you need no visa at all (30 days exemption)

nope. It may not. There are web sites where you can rent an outbound ticket for maybe USD 10

But she clearly says she will return from Bali to Phuket, then to Bangkok to fly back to Canada, utilising the return ticket she entered on. She needs nothing else.

you misunderstood. She needs an outbound ticket when she's coming the first time. Since they're staying from Nov to Jan

Update, you make sure you have a cheap outbound flight booked (e.g BKK to Siem Reap). Check in staff at departure still may want to see you will exit from the kingdom within 30 days. Of course you will not use it, but book it before you leave Canada.

You've already booked flights this early? Afraid flights will be full? I doubt that will be an issue.

Hopefully by the time of your trip, the Thailand Pass and all mandates, including masking will be history but with Thailand (and even Bali) you can never really be sure.

A visa is the least of her worries. I'm all for planning trips in advance but no one knows what the rules will be like in November. It's foolish to make a booking now, not knowing whether there will still be quarantines and testing in place or perhaps a re-introduction of stricter measures.

All the advice given here has been about pre-Covid visa rules.

A useless and time wasting discussion at this stage, given Covid restrictions in place right now.

Yeah let's pretend everything is normal. You do realize you can't just get into Thailand without the Thailand Pass? Masking is mandatory everywhere in public?

No one knows for sure when all this will be scrapped. Until it happens, I wouldn't make any assumptions.

Technically, if you split up your first 2 months with a side trip somewhere, or extend, you wouldn't need a visa as both countries (Definitely UK) are visa exempt for 30 days in Thailand. And UK doesn't need one for Bali either (And I believe Canada is the same).

Both of you are eligible for a visa exempt entry, which would give you 30 days on arrival and extendable for a further 30 days.
