and if you don’t then you still need an onward travel ticket if asked. They want to see that you are planning to leave the country within the visa/visa free timeframe

long term visa yes. Tourist visa or visa exempt or any short term visa it is required. You can be denied at check in at the airport if you can’t prove onward travel if asked. I’ve only been asked a couple of times in 16 years but it does happen and people are denied

it is mandatory. Whether you are asked or not is a different question. But if asked you have to prove onward travel

Just don’t worry about a TR. just enter on visa exempt. Loads easier

100% because I use fast track everytime in Bangkok and Phuket and over the last 16 years of visiting I have never been questioned by an IO but the last 2 years I seem to be getting asked of onward flights and this time even proof of accommodation which I didn’t have as I am staying with a friend. A quick explanation and I was on my way but you are definitely right about how things have changed in the last 12-18 months

I’m not asking for advice, I was simply stating what happened to my friends

it’s a group of mates and they were coming for a long stint but their plans changed so they decided to just enter on visa exempt, stayed 3 weeks and left and then 2 months later arrived and used their DTV’s. Why? I’m not sure but just letting you know it was fine to do so 🤷‍♂️
