I'm currentlt on a 90 day tourist visa however just realised my return flight I've previously booked and paid for, my departure date will take me past my 90 day visa by an extra 6 days.

Will this cause me issues upon departure at the airport ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user initially inquired about the ramifications of overstaying a tourist visa in Thailand by 6 days due to a flight date conflict. Responses from the community highlighted that overstaying can lead to fines of 500 THB per day (totaling 3,000 THB for 6 days) and potential deportation if stopped by authorities. Suggestions mainly focused on changing the flight to avoid overstaying. The user later confirmed that they have resolved the issue by changing their flight to an earlier date.

I appreciate everyone's advice however my problem has now been solved. I've changed my flight for a 1 week earlier departure date. Thanks

@Simon *******
this was the best decision👍

Don’t overstay. Do a border run within the first 60 days
Stephen ********
I'd apply for another 30 day extension. This will be denied but give you a 7 day stamp to leave the country......I think 🤔

Don't forget that you would go to immigration prison if stopped .

You don't like it .

I would go ask immigration ,they might give you a week extension given the Cambodia situation

but have you already had a 30 day extension from immigration? What is the date on the stamp in your passport?

Thanks all for your advice I will change my flight for a week earlier departure.
Andriy ***************************
3000฿ fine (500฿/day) and it will be recorded in your passport and in immigration's computer system that you overstayed
Robert *********
@Andriy **************************
nobody included the fact that you will go straight to immigration prison if stopped for any reasons
Peter **********
try changing your flight first
Pui *****
If you didn't extend your visa in country before the 60 days expired, then you are already on a severe overstay as 90 day tourist visas only grant 60 day stays within the 90 day visa validity period.

@Pui ****
he's not replying so no one knows if he has assumed he's got 90 day visa in the country, which he hasn't. So it would help if he clarified.
Michael ********
Dont overstay even one day. If you cannot change your flight plan a trip out of country.

Are you now on a 30 days extension from immigration? If not you can go to the local immigration office and extend your stay.
Mark ******
Yes

It will class as an overstay I believe and you'll get a fine as well as having trouble getting back into Thailand in the future.

Personally I would fly out of the country on a cheap flight before your 90 days expire and then come back on a connecting flight to meet your original flight.

You could try and fly out and back again next day and get another 60 day visa exemption but you risk a refusal or questions asked at immigration.
Martyn ***********
I'd start by contacting the airline and see what a flight change would cost..
Lynnette *******
Did you extend this visa by 30 days already, so have the 90 days? But when you flew in you didn't notice you'd booked your flight for 96 later? Can you change your flight?

@Lynnette ******
Thats exactly what has happened. So I'm now trying to change my flight

@Simon *******
so you’ve had a 30 day extension??it’s never good to

Overstay you’d pay 500 a day but you’ll get that nasty overstay stamp in your passport

@Bob *********
correct and today realised when I checked my departure flight date I would have been in Thailand for 96 days. So back to my original question being what's the ramifications if overstaying by 6 days. Like your advice the general consensus from members on this sites is change your flight.
Bradford ******
@Simon *******
Change your flight. If you do not you have to pay 6 X 500thb overstay fine when you depart at the airport (3,000 thb). The risk is, if you get stopped by the police for any reason during those 6 overstay days, you will be arrested and deported.
Bob **********
@Simon *******
definitely change your flight
Lynnette *******
@Simon *******
you didn't have a 90 day visa. You had 60 days and extended it so the stamp tells you what day you had to leave by. Ramifications of overstaying? Example: You get stopped for some reason, status is checked and you're on overstay. Then, worse case scenario, could be taken to airport and made to buy ticket and leave, fined, banned. You might get away with it but it's obvious it would be an overstay you could have avoided. Or. . they might just tell you to pay overstay on exit. 🤷

@Lynnette ******
if he goes to immigration on day 89 and acts dumb and wants another ‘30’ days (attempting to get 7 more days, do you think Immigration will give him ‘7’ days extra to ‘get out of Thai’?
Lynnette *******
@Damo **********
if he's not already done the extension before his 60 days were up, he'll be on a massive overstay already. No one knows what he's done because he hasn't clarified anything properly.
John **********
Firstly there is no such thing as a 90 day tourist visa. The tourist visa is valid for use for 90 days but when you use it to enter Thailand it gets you stamped in for 60 days. You can extend that by a further 30 days at the immigration office that serves the area you are in. If you go on overstay (exceed the period specified in your passport) and make it to the airport you will be charged 500 baht per day for every day over, BUT if you are noticed by the police to be on overstay before you reach the airport you risk being arrested, deported and banned from Thailand. Going on overstay is never a good idea

@John *********
There is a 90 day non immigration visa.

Which is different from is normally called a tourist visa, the (at the moment) 60 day exempt on arrival.

Key Points about the 90-day Non-Immigrant Visa:

Purpose:

Intended for those engaging in activities like business, education, or retirement.

Initial Stay:

Grants an initial stay of up to 90 days from the date of entry.

Extension:

Can be converted to a longer-term visa, such as a one-year Non-Immigrant Visa for retirement, marriage, or education, by applying for an extension through the Thai Immigration Bureau.

Application:

Can be applied for at a Thai Embassy or Consulate, through the Thailand E-Visa portal, or by mail.
Stuart *********
There is no 90 day tourist visa. You’re either on a 60 day tourist visa or a 60 day visa exempt stamp. Either option allows a 30 day extension (except for a few countries).
Stan **********
@Stuart ********
not correct.

There is a 60 day tourist visa, commonly referred to and known as visa exempt entry, that you can extend for 30 days as you have stated.

But there is also a 90 day non immigration visa...

Key Points about the 90-day Non-Immigrant Visa:

Purpose:

Intended for those engaging in activities like business, education, or retirement.

Initial Stay:

Grants an initial stay of up to 90 days from the date of entry.

Non immigrant visas are for long term stays and not considered tourist visas.

The 60 day visa exempt entry is exactly what it says. You are exempt from holding a visa - you have no visa just an entry stamp.

I’m also aware that there are lots of other types of visas not mentioned by the OP

They specifically said a “90 day tourist visa” which does not exist.

You are referring to a special visa waiver scheme that a few countries have with Thailand. That’s not a tourist visa. It’s a visa waiver. As a Korean if you bought a tourist visa prior to arrival you would get 60 days. Not that anyone would want to waste their money doing so.

think we all kinda knew what he meant by ‘90 days’… no reply to his actual query 🤣
Stuart *********
@Damo **********
Had a person today at immigration with a 20+ day overstay because they bought a “90 day tourist visa” prior to coming and wanted an extension. They hadn’t realised that a tourist visa is valid for 90 days from issue but gives you 60 days on entry.

Some people don’t realise the difference.

@Stuart ********
, correct!
Lynnette *******
Well you're aware you will be on overstay. So it could be a problem.
