The max 90 days within any 180 days rule is for European Union Schengen Countries. No such rule for Thailand apart from Thailand no longer likes people living in Thailand on tourist visas including border runs. Same in Mexico post covid and they require people to get proper visas.

…. If you are a tax resident … more than 180 days presence in the country in a fiscal year (Thailand 1st Jan-31st Dec)? Whatever the treatment best not to become a tax resident and divide the year into 3 or more countries… is my moto. The above treatment is certainly correct for Indonesia.

if you become tax resident in Thailand (more than 180 days of physical presence during fiscal year) your worldwide income becomes taxable and tax already paid in your home contry (subject to having double taxation agreement with Thailand) credited against the Thai liability. For high earners the tax liability is usually very similar however for lower earners the additional tax liability in Thailand can be substantial due to the difference in personal allowances: eg UK £

pa while Thailand only £3000 pa if i remember correctly. You newd to study carefully or get professional advice. Best of course is not to become tax resident in any of the countries in addition to the home country (where your pension will be always taxes at source in any case).

I am struggling with Blue Book, owner’s ID and now apparently even a utility bill … i have the condo contract but managing agent cannot provide any of the above.

As long as the tourist visa, exemption or extension of the exemption has 15 days or more left you can proceed with non-o application - i was told at several immigration offices and they even calculated my last relevant date. You will need help of an agent to open the Bank account. What i am struggling is the blue book, ID of the owner and today a copy of the last utility bill was added to the requirement. I have a condo contract but the managing agent cannot provide the blue book and the owner’s ID.

yes, as long as 14 days remaining on the existing visa or exemption (told and been given even the last qualifying day by immigration officer in Sri Racha when enquiring).

it is not as simple as that: the thai system will calculate the tax on worldwide income in line with their Income tax system including personal allowance. Then they will credit the amount with income tax paid in UK and the difference if any is due to the Thai Tax authorities. I have undertaken such excercise in another asian country and used my UK tax return as supporting evidence. Interestingly, both systems were quite similar and the net amount due to this asian country’s tax authority was actually only £300. However professional fees can amount to much more and i now make sure i am nowhere more than 180 days in any financial year and just deal with UK tax system (be careful with the dates of financial years in different countries) The world is big enough any way.
