Diplomats are often over protected and out of the real world. I know one evacuated to Bangkok for kidney stones although there was a 5-star hospital in southern Thailand where he was working.

In my humble opinion, the true nonsense is you, knowing 6 weeks in advance that you won't be able to travel back because of covid (which is the very purpose of the 60-day extension).
