just want to share my experience before 2 days.

I am on ED visa for 6 months, and i travel for 4 days to vietnam and come back through Suvarnabhumi airport i have my re entry permit already.

So immigration officer checking my passport and see I am on ed visa, then ask me what am I doing in thailand, I say study thai as soon I say that she switch conversation on thai, then I explain on thai that i cannot speak much and I just start it to learn, then she ask how long I study thai, what is the name of school and why you want to learn thai. Next thing she ask booking confirmation where I stay which of course I dont have because my thai gf book condo under her name. Then I call gf to come to the counter at immigration and they talk with each other.

That immigration officer was friendly and at the end she say and I will quote her "I hope you understand me why I need to ask these question, because many people overstay"

So long story short if you leave Thailand while you on ed visa there is pretty big chances that you will be questioned by immigration upon your arrival back.

I dont know if I see in this or another group that another people also get questioned, so just want to tell my story so you can be prepared.

Extension of stay 1 year Non-O Thai husband Chiang Mai

Hi everyone just thought I would share my experience getting my first extension of stay ( Non-O Thai husband), I am from UK.

Documents I brought:

- Wedding certificate x 2 copies

- Kor 2 - 1 copy & 1 original - needed for first extension.

- Copies of Passport data page x 2

- E-visa printout x 2

- Copy of entry stamp x 2

- Copies of TM30 x 2

- Copies of husband ID card front & back x 2

- Copies of husband’s house book x 2

- Map x 2

- 2 photos outside house (1 with house number) x 2

- 2 photos inside house x 2

- Extension of stay paperwork (can’t remember the exact names) x 2

- passport size photo of me - x 2

- Copy of rental contract x 2

I tried going early to get it sorted but was advised I need to return when I had 45 days or less left on my current visa.

Returned last week with an online appointment waited just over an hour for our paperwork to be completed - it was very busy at immigration that day. Given the under consideration stamp and was told I would need to return on the date of my ‘under consideration’ stamp - 28th Dec.

We were told immigration officers would call to arrange a visit within the first 2 weeks. They called this morning and have asked us to come to immigration with a witness - ideally a neighbour. We advised we can’t bring our neighbours because they are too elderly. They said that’s fine we can bring a friend who has a Chiang Mai address on their ID card. We were also told we need to bring another photo of us with the house number wearing the same clothes we are going to wear for our appointment.

We have arranged an appointment for this Friday - fingers crossed everything goes smoothly 😊

I'M USED TO SOME BS with any government, but this was puzzling. I went to immigration in June, to extend my tourist visa for 60 more days, and I was early, like maybe six weeks. They said come back in a few weeks for the stamp, which is what I expected.

One guy tried to tell me that, since I was so ahead of schedule, that the visa would be extended 60 from the date I would receive the stamp, about two weeks before it would have expired, and not 60 days from the original visa expiration — through broken English, he made it clear, even using a calendar to show the dates.

Has anyone else heard this nonsense? I went to other officials, and they looked confused with his explanation and just shrugged it off. I returned a few weeks later and they stamped my passport for the correct 60-day extension.
