Correct, but Gatwick wanted to see the copy. No big deal if I hadn't had it though. I don't think they would have stopped me flying.

I was asked if I had a TDAC at Gatwick Airport on check in. I showed a copy. Was never asked on arrival.

You're right. Six weeks ago the Shanghai wifi wasn't working. This week was OK. No problem with VPN.

I've just arrived on a flight from Shanghai. My fellow passengers, mostly Chinese, seemed to have no difficulty in entering at CNX, apart from some who appeared unaware of the DTAC requirement, but that's a separate issue.

That's not true. I've just come from Shanghai to CNX. The WiFi at Shanghai Airport worked just fine and, with my VPN, I was able to access all my usual Internet connections.

I sent my pension statements but they wanted 3 months' bank statements too, showing the pensions deposited. It wasn't either or, it was both.

I use an annual multi-trip travel insurance that costs £450 annually and allows up to 90 days per trip. Perfect for me but wont work with the OA though.

I tried that before they introduced the health insurance requirement. It worked fine, just used my regular travel insurance. Since then they've introduced an onerous health insurance requirement. Non-starter now.

I was considering the medical appointment route. The hassle otherwise would be setting up a Thai bank account and needlessly tying up cash in it.

Done that, plus the non-Imm O and the OA, even visa exemption over the years. DTV would avoid all the hassles. I'm no longer a tourist.
