Can someone confirm that, in order to extend a Non-immigrant O visa, the financial requirement to have proof of at least 65000 baht, monthly income is sufficient?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To extend a Non-Immigrant O visa in Thailand, a monthly income of at least 65,000 baht is not sufficient on its own. Applicants need to provide a notarized affidavit of income from their consulate as the primary proof of funds. Current regulations emphasize that without this affidavit, extensions based on income alone will not be accepted. Moreover, recent posts indicate that any change in policies is unconfirmed, reinforcing the necessity of having the proper documentation, particularly for those relying on income from abroad.

, actually that's not gonna help you get a yearly extension INSIDE the country :/

The simplest thing you could do would be to apply for a year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa from the thai consulate in London BEFORE you wing your way back here.

That visa is good for a year at a time, is unlimited entries and each entry gets you stamped in for a full year for the validity of the visa (a year from the date it's issued). PLUS you can use the money in your UK bank to show your proof of funds. Granted you do need a police background check and a medical certificate but that visa is WAY better than a yearly extension inside the country. :)

many people who use multiple entry visas will time their last entry so that it is near the expiration date of visa.

This way you can get another year permission to stay. If you time it right, you can get up to two years permission to stay from a ME non O-A,

up to 15 months from a ME non-B/ED/O,

up to 8 months from a ME Tourist Visa.

Thanks for your helpful advice, Tod.

That is why I am saying that to get a yearly extension of stay based on being over 50 (retirement) using the "income from abroad" method of meeting the financial requirements (65K baht a month in income) the ONLY proof the immigration offices will accept is the affidavit of income notary from your consulate (which depending on if you're from the US, the UK or Australia will discontinue issuing them at the end of the year).

I would say IF you are thinking of using income from abroad to meet the financials for your yearly extension AND if you are from the UK, you need to get after applying for the income affidavit. They ONLY do it by email or post and the UK consulate will discontinue the service on Dec 12..

The good news IS; while those three consulates are indeed discontinuing the issuing of those letters the immigration office has stated that they will still honor the 6 month validity of them. <- meaning IF you get the letter before they stop issuing them and your extension is due within 6 months AT THIS TIME, they said they will still honor the letters.

This is what you do to get that letter from the UK consulate.

The simplest thing is for me to pick up another Non-O when I go home next month.

You have to keep in mind that the thai consulates (all in other countries) are run by the ministry of Foreign Affairs Office and the thai immigration offices (all in this country) are run by the Royal Thai Police.

They are two totally different government offices doing completely different things.

Thai consulates sell visas outside the country,

thai immigrations sells visas and extensions inside the country. BUT they use totally different criteria.

So to answer your question, YES, I can confirm you CANNOT get an extension of stay by showing proof of 65K baht being transferred into your bank account every month. <- IT WILL NOT WORK

Yes, from the UK embassy...

, IF I was a betting man I'd wager that your pension statements worked to get a Non-O visa from a thai consulate in another country NOT inside of thailand.

Thank you, Tod. The Immigration website doesn't mention the affidavit it that context. It doesn't specify what 'evidence' of income is required. Pension statements worked to get my present non-O but, I bow to your collective experience.

or let me rephrase that;

It WILL work, IF you have the affidavit of income notary from your consulate but without it, it will not..

@Geoff ******
, AT THIS TIME the ONLY way to show proof of funds using the income method is from the notarized affidavit of income from your consulate.

There is NO other way to do it.

Tod Daniels posted this at TOP of forum...

ATTENTION MEMBERS:

Any further posts asking about the discontinuing of the affidavits of income from abroad notary letters by the UK, US and Australian consulates and what the new policy might be will be deleted.

AT THIS TIME there is NO NEW information and NO OFFICIAL policy change by the immigration office (meaning nothing has been put out in writing)

Keep in mind; no matter what an immigration officer in your office might tell you, they DON'T know what's gonna happen yet either.

As soon as an official policy change has been made I'm sure it will sweep the inter-web (or at least the thai sites patronized by foreigners on the inter-web)..

Please read recent post by Tod Daniels. There has been NO change officially. Be patient and wait - like the rest of expats - for whatever changes are to be enacted.

The website doesn't mention any affidavit, only evidence of income. I would show my pension statements, as I did successfully, to get the original non-imm-O visa. But, if I have the required income, do I still need money in a bank account?

My question was not about any change but just to confirm that, if you have an income of
*****
baht, you do not need to have proof of money in any bank account.
