Can I enter Thailand on a visa exemption before using my SETV?

A quick hypothetical. If I have an SETV, do I have to use it, immediately or can I enter on a visa exemption first and use the SETV later but within the 3-month validity?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the possibility of entering Thailand on a visa exemption even if you possess a valid Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV). It highlights that this decision ultimately lies with the immigration officer at the point of entry, and experiences can vary widely among travelers.

People ask this quite a lot, and the real answer is it's totally up to the immigration officer when you stamp in whether they'll let you in on a 30 day visa exempt entry while you have a valid SETV in your passport or not.

It works for some and not for others.

My impression is that it will work if they miss the visa, if they see the visa you will get stamped in on that. I asked once myself, as I was only in Thailand for 48 hours to get a flight somewhere else and then was coming back, and they insisted on stamping me in on the visa. I'd say your best *chance* is not writing the visa number on the arrival card and just hoping they miss it. The IO did go off to ask for me, though, if I could have a visa exempt entry, so it may depend on who you get like Tod suggests.
