I have accounts with Halifax and NatWest. I explained to both I was moving to Thailand and no problem. Halifax uses mobile phone to confirm transactions by text and easy to change mobile phone number to Thai mobile on their app. This is what they advised me to do and works with Thai number. NatWest uses a card reader and I got two spares to bring.

Check out this handy savings drawdown calculator available online. Add your uk pension at 67 and I would say you’ll be fine.I’ve just spent a year in Hua Hin and would say your budget is fine. Most day to day expenses are cheaper. My council tax and utility bills not including rent uk £500. Thailand £60.

I bought my bike from a private individual. You can do the transfer at a garage that does testing. There are many everywhere. Look for the cog logo. We went to one on phetkasem road near the palace opposite. They told us what paperwork we needed and left it with them and collected the book in my name about a week later. Did the same with my car but we went to the transport office in Pran Buri where they did it while we waited . Took about an hour.

I have accounts with Halifax and NatWest. I told them both in branch about moving to Thailand and they were happy to give me advice. I use the Halifax mostly and their Mobile app makes it easy to change your smartphone to Thai number for one time passcodes when setting up new / large payments etc. The code texts come through to Thai number immediately. NatWest gave me a card reader to get passcodes for new payments etc. I use my sisters postal address for new cards etc.

Send funds from UK using wise and never had a problem

Good point , I wouldn’t know sorry but I imagine that English is not commonly spoken. Just relaying what my friend has told me. I’ve never been and he does speak Thai and very accustomed to the culture so easier for him to settle. Just saying for him the visa situation is very simple and easy way of life.

I have a friend who lived in Thailand for 20 years. After splitting up with his Thai wife he found the visa situation difficult and now after spending six months in Cambodia he finds it preferable. A lot cheaper and more welcoming. It seems a lot less modern than Thailand but he’s really enjoying it

Have a look at “Tread The Globe” on YouTube. They are travelling the world and entered through Malaysia with a UK registered camper van about 5 shows back/2 weeks. Did the temporary import themselves and when I last saw the show were on their way to Bangkok to extend
