I budget for Bt 100,000 P/M each time I go to Hua Hin, I usually come back having spent only Bt65,000 per month. I actually save money holidaying in Thailand, airfare is $440 for 3 months W.A. to Thailand then back again to Australia, I spend $200 per week on food alone in Aus, nothing like that in Thailand. For a 3-star hotel room in Aus $250/300 per night (in Thailand the same room is $500 per month). For some meals I cook myself and for some I buy, I only accept accommodation I can cook in. At a restaurant in Australia for a nice meal $50 plus and a cheap bottle of wine for 2 people $130 per meal for 2 (and that's cheap in Aus) Yes I save money going now to Thailand for 3 months at a time. The new 60-day tourist visa is good for me, it takes about one hour to get an extension at immigration, so 3 months is no problem. I will not have to apply for the previous 60+ day visa plus 30 day extension which can be complicated. Thailand has now improved. Still TIT.

Hello

We are a retired couple plans to move to Bangkok. Our monthly pension and rental income is about USD 3,000.- is the amount enough to comfortably live in BKK?

I'll apply for some kind of retirement visa for October 2024 so I need to know how many MONTHS of statements I have to show the required monthly income/combined with pension in my US bank account because I'm starting a new online business venture and it will take a while to build up.

And I have read so many sites, including government ones, that are vague or contradict each other about whether it's JUST the monthly income that would suffice or if depositing $20,000ish USD is required ALSO?

So essentially is it AND or OR?

I'm really not interested in putting that much in a Thai bank when I have my business in the US and pay all my bills through my US Bank and I've heard many times it's a real hassle to even open an account before you have the visa, so it's a catch 22.

Apparently there are new tax laws too which I'm also confused reading. I have a small social security and some $ from my online counseling business which already gets taxed by California State and Federal so I definitely don't want to pay another country too when I'm already financially challenged for many reasons (no insults or preaching about that please).

Many countries change rules quickly, so I'm checking for 2024. And the majority of countries are making it increasingly harder to retire there. I've lived in Mexico and other countries and Mexico's income requirements are insanely high now!!

Any site links that are extremely clear and reliable would be helpful too, so I can stay updated. Thanks much.

Hi moderators I have a question from my FB-less friend. Which type of Visa is best for him to apply for. He is married to a Thai woman, has 400,000 but receives a lower pension than the stated requirement. Is the Thai-wife the best solution? Thank you in advance for your for your coming responses.

Just a quick question guys. My pension company has agreed to pay my pension, which is the required monthly income to stay. They are going to pay me via western union from UK to Thai bank, Can anyone tell me if this will show the required foreign transfer required by Visa extension? Many thanks Aidan

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where I can find the document in THAI that shows the combination method (pension + banked money) I've looked, but don't read Thai, so im not much use.

Tried to renew my extension of stay, over 50, using this method today. Immigration asked if I had another bank account, no, told me I don't have enough money in bank, looked at pension, said not enough.

Considering that the total pension for last 12 months, plus money in bank today (and many months) equates to 1.45m bt.

They just looked at both, said both don't match, and didn't add together even though the document they hand out, says it's acceptable albeit in poor translation form.

Sorry to ask as I thought it was sorted.

All the best,

Terry.

Russell Graves posted in another thread

I was on the marriage visa 40k a month but they said my pension was enough to go on 65k a month retirement.

At the time my pension was worth 78k per month but is now worth 61,500 and will probably have to go back on the marriage one.

Will I have to go through the process all over again as it was their idea?
