apparently from July most people get 60 dayd by default, so there is really no point anymore paying for single entry visa.

I'll do the same, it should be ok. I did it before for the Thai consulate in Singapore, just printed a screenshot from my banking app showing the last 3 months. You also need Hotel bookings for your entire stay but you can book a hotel and use the "pay later option" & "free cancellation". Here are all the requirements:

50% chance they won't let you board the flight unless you buy a ticket on the spot which can be way more expensive. Better he prepared and have an onward ticket ready.

My friend just went to the Thai embassy in KL 2 weeks ago for tourist visa and only showed a hotel booking that wasn't even paid yet. No proof of payment was asked or tax number. It was accepted and she picked up her visa the following day. Hope this helps.
