The 800.000 Baht for non O retirement visa, can this be deposited into a savings account to earn interest?.

Or does it have to be in a regular checking account?
Answer summary
Yes, the 800,000 Baht required for a Non-O retirement visa can be deposited into a savings account in Thailand, as long as the account is accessible at all times. Many users report that immigration accepts funds held in savings accounts, but it's crucial to verify with your local immigration office about their specific requirements. Fixed term deposits may not be accepted since the funds must be readily accessible.

Matter of time before immigration officials start looking at visa agents, and everyone who used one to secure the 800k baht will start panicking.

Thai visa requirements and rules are there for a reason.

It can be a savings account as long as it’s immediately available.

It's just another scam to milk foreigners by keeping the interest so low.

Mike Bell the thais are getting the same interest rate as foreigners....the 800k is to prove you can take care of yourself and not create problem for the country...Scam?

Jesper Ngiam But you cannot drop below 400k so it's dead money. not for taking care of yourself.

Beware that even though it may be called a 'Savings Account' - that doesn't mean it pays interest. This is Thailand 😂.

I ran into a new wrinkle which was getting a small interest bearing account from Siam commercial Bank, but it came without the multi-sheet passbook. when I presented monies deposited there the immigration chiang mai was not interested in looking at the monies deposited there as it was in a non Passbook account

if you mean the SCB Easy account you can get a digital pass book that you can print out

the problem came when I tried to use the electronic Passbook, which really does not exist as a method of verifying funds in that account. the immigration Chiang Mai wants to see that entry just before you submit your paperwork to immigration for your annual renewal of a nono Visa. the e-passbook cannot be used as a regular passbook can be used. the regular passbook you give to your bank to show what the balance of your account was the week before you renew your account. although it was nice to get a tiny amount of interest, not being able to have that book that gets printed in is something that is not accepted by the main office of Chiang Mai immigration.

A savings account is fine. But a fixed term deposit may not be.

my 800,000 THB are in a savings account and Immigration accepts it. What you meant to ask is if you can use a FIXED TERM account. You need to ask your Immigration if they accept it, don't ask in Facebook. Many Immigrations accept fixed term accounts if the money is accessible at any given time

Nongnuch Kamdee yeah as long asU not touch 1/ 3 of time

Paul Kaiser that's a different requirement. It only applies to the minimum of 800,000 THB on savings accounts. Two months before application and 3 months after been issued the extension. If you use a fixed term account, you can't touch the deposit within 100% of the time
