Can you remove your 800,000 before the 3 months after you receive your first 1yr extension, if you deposit 65000 per month for 12 months before requesting your visa for next year? If that is the case why wouldn't someone put the 800,000 back into your home countries bank account and add 65000 a month to your Thailand account. This way you are getting a decent interest rate, don't need to worry about losing your 800,000 and not tying the money up for 7 months out of the year. Thank you for reading my question.
Answer summary
The general consensus on the forum indicates that you cannot withdraw the 800,000 THB from your Thai bank account before maintaining it for at least three months following your first 1-year extension of stay. Many community members emphasize the importance of complying with the set requirements to avoid any issues with future visa extensions. It's also suggested that while depositing 65,000 THB monthly is a valid method for managing your finances, the 800,000 THB should ideally remain in the account as a safety measure until you officially switch to the monthly transfer method.

It doesn't make sense to put money into a Thai bank account and to put it back into your home account either. You're paying for an exchange twice. If you need to use it in Thailand again, you're going to pay for another exchange, for the third time.

Another shit answer, Brian. Another I have loads of dosh smug question. Why can't you be civil. The guy has asked a perfectly decent question about accuring interest in his home bank account. To many people on here like you! Its about helping people. Some people have had to work their asses off to obtain enough to retire in Thailand. The guy probably has more money than but doesn't like to be a complete knob end and show off. Give the keyboard a miss and stop being a pompous knob!! Excellent question, David. Personally Im not sure on that one, but it would seem feasible.

Your best bet is to go to your local immigration office and ASK how to "convert" from the 800K in the bank to the 65K monthly deposit while retaining your ex-pat status.

If that much money which is really not that much money is a problem for you to put into an account then maybe it's not the place for you in the first place. If you're stressing out over the money before you even do it then obviously you have a financial problem for meeting the criteria. It's not for everyone and that's why they do it try to move to Switzerland you have to have a million dollars

0 is peanuts if you plan to retire. I think most Americans will have 5 to 20 million baht after selling their home. The USD will continue to decline. If 800,000 baht is a big deal for you, I think a different country is a better idea,

Doesn't anyone here actually send over more than Bt65k to live on anyway ?

If so, then why is the Bt800k even an issue ?

You can put the money into a investment account in Thailand at the bank and Gain decent interest and also be entered into the lottery system where you could make even more. Thailand's money is not as much of course as other countries but you can still make a decent interest and replace the money as you need every 3 months

I used an agent to seed the money when l first came to Pattaya 2 years ago. As soon as they got me a bank account, l started bringing in 65k per month. After my 15 months was done, l renewed my 1 year in Krabi using the 65k method with no issue. I'm back in Pattaya again and will do my 2nd renewal with the 65k next month. I shouldn't have any issues doing this method here.

Mike Baker hi Mike i am going to try going down the 65k a month route. Do i show UK bank statements showing my earnings to start. Then start depositing 65k a month into the Thai bank the agent going to open for me? Thanks.

Calum Don What is your starting point? Are you in Thailand yet and if so do you already have a Non-O visa or have you already got a 12 month extension with the 800k banked?

Graham Seal Came Jan, 16th, 2024. I went to an agent who got me my bank account, 3 month and 12 month Non O together (15 months total). As soon as l got my bank opened, l started transferring 65k through Wise every month. Started all this when l landed in Thailand.

The correct way to do it is keeping the 800k and showing 12mths of 65k statements to the immigration office in your next extension until the officer confirmed that you have switched to the 65k method then you withdraw the 800k

David Grube Yes, but, some immigration officers want to see your former deposit 800K Thb in your Thai bank account few years ago when you will go to extend your stay permit. Yes, that is clearly their decision. No one knows that.

You don't mention which Bank...? Bangkok will freeze your money because apparently they make immigration visa decisions..

Martyn Rollinson they will if you follow the Immigration financial requirements and top up the account balance accordingly

Graham Seal the money is supposed to cover you an emergency, that's the whole point... Bangkok bank has no right to freeze your money.

Your account must hold the required amount, 800,000 for Retirement, 400,000 for marriage visa for a minimum of 3 months prior to the initial visa application and must have the required balance amount at each renewal application.

no, he can withdraw some of the deposit after he has held it above 800,000 THB for 3 months after his extension got issued, but he must not let the deposit fall below 400,000 THB in the rest of the year until he switches to the 12-months of transfers method

David Grube you would also be subject to lost fees and exchange rate x2 if you sent the money back home.

It depends where you are from, leaving a sizable sum of money in a UK bank would, I think, be risky as there is speculation of the government taxing your savings, nest egg, whatever you want to call it and they will help themselves to your money without permission from you, furthermore, there is no good rate of interest in the UK, you can get much better rates here in Thailand. Your money is as safe here as it is in the UK, could well be safer actually
John **********
John **********
No you can't. You have to honour the terms of your current extension of stay or you won't get the next extension. So 800k baht for 3 months then never going below 400k baht for the rest of the year

Absolutely not. You have to leave the 800k there as well as make 65k deposits for 12 months. Also it is not easy to transfer the 800k back to your home country.

I just leave the 800k in a separate account to the day to day account. Makes a little bit every year in interest.

Sebastian Barrow it’s one or the other not both amounts .
Sebastian ********

Robert Graham you can still do 800k for the first extension in the bank method whilst you are making the monthly deposits. Then at the next extension you are just showing the 12 monthly deposits and not the 800k.

Graham Seal sorry as I did not explain that correctly. At the end of the day you cannot do as he planned.

Sebastian Barrow 800k is not needed for 12 months as explained by others.
