Do Non O visa requirements allow for a term deposit account instead of a current account in Thailand?

Two part simple question.

In the future, probably 3 years time, I will apply for Non O visa.

The requirement, 800,000 baht deposit into a Thai bank account.

1. Does this money have to be deposited into a ‘current account’?

2. Can the money be deposited into a ‘term deposit account? If this is an option? What is the current return on term deposit accounts, in Thailand?

🙏
Answer summary
The question pertains to the requirements for obtaining a Non O visa in Thailand, specifically regarding the necessity of depositing 800,000 baht. The poster inquires whether this deposit must be made in a current account or if it can alternatively be placed in a term deposit account. They also seek information on the current interest rates associated with such term deposits. Responses varied, with some stating that term deposits may be acceptable if funds are accessible, and providing insights on current interest rates, which appear to be low, typically around 1%. However, many commenters cautioned that visa requirements may change over time.

Regular thai savings account is ok, but they wouldn't accept a deposit account for me.

Firstly, 3-years is a long time to be considering details of requirements.

For my 800,000 I use a term deposit account. Interest rates depend on amounts in the Bank, the length of term to mature, if you decide to withdraw any of the gained interest and the Bank you use. If you do decide this way, shop around first.

I find, all banks, where my wife or I have accounts, as soon as we finish what we need to do, we are swarmed by bank staff trying to sell insurance, term deposits and even failed mortgaged homes!!

Ignore and shop around first

Why don't you get your Non-O before arriving in Thailand which does not require a Thai bank account then transfer the 800k to season for your extension?

OP
Graham Seal the question is. Upon arrival, when depositing 800,000 into a Thai bank account. To comply with visa extension requirements. Does this deposit have to be in a current working account? Or can the deposit be into a ‘term deposit account’? If, the deposit can be into a term deposit account. What is the current interest rate?

EmeraldWolf7059 what a fuck wit, you are. The question is relevant. Be it today, or in the 3 years time. Try reading the questions I asked. “WHAT IS THE CURRENT RETURN ON A TERM DEPOSIT ACCOUNT, IN THAILAND?”

OP
EmeraldWolf7059 if Google is the answer to everything. Why do forums, like this one, exist? My mention of applying in 3 years time, was only to add context. Non O visa rules haven’t changed in years. If they change in the future, so be it. I don’t understand people like you. If you’ve got nothing constructive to add. Or, only intent to belittle someone. Don’t say anything. 🤐

Nick Grimley don’t call people name my friend. In the first place in your post, why do you have to mention about your plans to come in 3 years time, applying your non OA then asking about “current” return on term deposit now. Your post itself makes people confused. By telling you back the answer for current return may not be the same after 3 years isn’t wrong 😑 right? so why don’t you just ask about now and forget about the 3 years future plan. You can’t blame someone that reply you that the answer now vs 3 years later maybe different. Especially Thailand, law passes as and when they like it. Just like they implemented 60 days tourist visa exemption in 2024 and going to remove now in 2026.

SCB 1.1% for 2 years, money can be withdrawn if need, this is a requirement from imitation. If you withdraw, you lose the interest.
