Just got my DTV approved. Despite what I imagine was a somewhat unusual situation (applying from Brazil as a US citizen with a Hong Kong permanent address and a Hong Kong joint bank account listing my partner's name alongside mine), I was approved without a request for additional documents. I applied via the soft power route and was approved in 8 working days.
I have no idea whether any of this helped, but here's what I did beyond the minimum requirements to strengthen my application:
* I signed up for a 9-month course with Fitfac Muaythai in Bangkok. They're not the cheapest, but they were very responsive (even over the weekend) and I suspect having the documentation indicate a 9-month course would add credibility and make it easier to extend the DTV in 6 months.
* I applied using bank statements from a joint account that had over twice the minimum balance (i.e. one million THB). I figured if there were any questions about using a joint account, I would be able to argue that I was legally entitled to the minimum funds required for the DTV, even if half of my bank balance were considered to belong to my partner.
* I detailed my recent visa and travel history to Thailand (dates, ports of entry, visa number and work permit number, etc). The purpose of this was to build trust by demonstrating that I've always played by the rules during my time in Thailand.
* I wrote a detailed cover letter explaining all of the above, why I was applying from Brazil, and my interest in the DTV. I tried to anticipate and address any questions. I attached the letter to the course registration documents provided by Fitfac.
* I dressed professionally for the photo and used formal language and formatting in the cover letter. The goal here was to make myself look as bland and predictable as possible.
Hope this helps. Good luck to all who are applying!
Hi good morning, just wanna ask if my girlfriend holds a work permit in thailand and I am on DTV visa will it be possible for us to open a joint bank account? If yes, which bank is possible? Thank you in advance 🙏
My husband has already been approved for the DTV visa (from Portugal), and I am now submitting my application as spouse. We only have one bank account, which does not hold 500,000 THB + 500,000 THB separately for each of us.
Do you think I should submit the same bank statements that he used for his visa application (from our only shared account), and include a sponsor letter explaining that we have a joint account, the funds belong to both of us, are accessible to both of us, and that my husband will be financially supporting me during our stay?
Or would it be better to wait until we have 1.000,000 THB ?
We also have funds in a investment broker, but I understand that doesn’t really count for this type of visa — is that correct?
Planning to apply for an o visa based on marriage from London Thai Embassy have easily adequate funds and income etc my question is My money and income into bank
is held in a joint account ( I can if necessary prove income by P60's etc ) the Thai website doesn't specify or say it must be in sole name
I'm aware that when I open a Thai bank account it Must be in sole name but this is only for the 90 day part of the 'o' visa any experience at the London e visa application and sensible advice would be gratefully appreciated
Is it possible to open a joint bank account in Thailand, my gf is Thai. I’m on dtv and not that critical I get a bank account but would be useful to have!
I have a joint account with my wife (who is not applying) but with a few times the required 500,000 baht.
Problem I see is they require 3 months of bank statement and if the joint account is rejected then I have to get a new bank account and wait 3 months of bank statements in my name only.
I've emailed the Sydney embassy but no reply.
Anyone have success using a joint in Australia please?
"Dear all, I would like to ask for clarification regarding the financial requirements for the DTV Visa. If a bank account meets the required balance of over 500,000 THB but is a joint account with another person, does this affect the application? Could it be a reason for rejection? Thank you in advance for your help!"
Hello all. My question is this, as I can’t find an answer on the official page in regards to Retirement Visas. My wife and I are both over age 50. I am retired and she does not work and hasn’t for some years. We would like to move to Thailand and apply for a Retirement Visa but the requirements state each applicant must show individual income proof. Is my wife able to be a dependent on my retirement Visa? If not, if we both apply for retirement Visas, can we both use the same joint bank account as income verification? Thanks in advance.
