TLDR : Answer Summary
A joint bank account can be used for a Type O retirement visa application in Thailand, but it must have double the required funds deposited. Therefore, if the requirement is 800,000 baht, the joint account must have 1,600,000 baht due to the assumption that only half the funds belong to the applicant. Furthermore, not all immigration offices accept joint accounts, so it is advisable to check with the local immigration office for specific regulations.

I had a joint account (myself & my husband) approx 8 years ago for a number of years & all was well. Then Koh Samui Immigration Office told me I had to change to my name only. My husband is a dependant on my visa. I have an OA retirement visa.
IF your immigration office allows joint account for the banked money method on retirement visa/extension (which you need to check and see because not all offices even allow it) then you would need DOUBLE the required funds in the account so 1,600,000 because in the eyes of the thaiz only half that money is yours ๐
, There is no such condition. You can use the balance in joint account only for your application (means for one person). though could vary by the office
You can use a joint bank account if you want to, but you need to double the balance (in case the names on the account are for two people), which means you must deposit 1,600K baht into it.
When a bank account is a "joint" type, the average account balance of the number of registered people under that account will be considered as yours.
You'd better check your local immigration office if you can use a joint account in advance. Some offices don't like joint accounts much.
